I apologize if this is in the wrong section... I wasn't really sure where to put it.
My Prelude has recently had the check engine light come on twice... I've logged the codes below.
Some background on this problem. Over the past year, my Prelude (2001 SE model) has been devloping an annoying startup problem. When the car has been sitting for a while (like overnight) it is harder to start in the morning than it used to be plus it has a new annoying issue. When it does start... for about 3-7 seconds there is some detectable shaking from the engine... like it's stumbling or something. I can feel it while sitting in the driver's seat... and after a few seconds... it smoothes out and runs like a dream. This engine stumble only ever occurs at startup and only ever lasts a few seconds. The car runs great in all other aspects. At wide open throttle under maximum acceleration there are no hesitations, hiccups or stumbles... just smooth power and a responsive engine.
My car is a 2001 Prelude SE with about 101,000km on it (about 63000 miles).
The DTC's that I found logged were as follows.
P0301 - Cylinder 1 misfire detected
P0302 - Cylinder 2 misfire detected
P0304 - Cylinder 4 misfire detected
P0300 - Random/Multiple cylinder misfire detected
Recent maintenance I've done to try and fix this problem is as follows:
- New spark plugs
- New distributor cap and rotor
I have to check compression and a few other things to rule them out but I'm puzzled as this problem only seems to happen at startup (that's when the light comes on anyways, along with the shaking and engine stumbling). I'm leaning towards maybe my oxygen sensor is starting to go? I don't know... I'm not very good at diagnosing engine troubles and I know there are some pretty experienced people on here. I hope maybe some of them will be able to shed some light on this problem. Thanks for reading.
