Signs of clutch master/ slave cylinder failure???

Yeah, what are the signs of wear/ failure.

I love driving the lude, but TBH I know in the back of my head there is something not quite right with the cluch....

Its juddery, and the pedal is stiff. It has no issues getting in to gear, or changing, but stop-starting etc is a real pain, and it doesnt pull away that smoothly unless you really go gentle with the clutch and gas.

Its very juddery in reverse as well.

I am a perfrectionist... and I want it to be perfect, and I know its not, because I know that I wouldnt buy a car with a clutch like mine (well a new one at any rate).

I dont think the clutch is worn out, because it doesnt slip... ever, and its more or less fine in higher gears.... just this hard pedal, and noticable judder...

I was hoping for an easy fix, but I may not get it!

If I have to take the gearbox out, then I would change the clutch, plate and bearing then as a matter of course, but as I said, I know what a spent clutch feels like, and its not like that.

I want to change the transmission fluid, and bleed the clutch system through, so maybe that will help... but was curious about the points as regards the title of my thread.

The obvious sign is not being able to put into any gears and the pedal gets real soft to where when you push it to the floor, it won't come back up.....If you replace one part, you should replace the other

ive been threw all kinds of clutch problems,
if your clutch has trouble goin down, check the master cylinder
if the clutch has problems coming back up, check the slave cylinder
if you have trouble getting it into gear, my problem was part of my clutch broke off in the tranny

not those then... the pedal is very stiff though...

I replaced the clutch in my old mazda which also had a hydraulic clutch, and that was like a new car when I got it replaced, pedal was rough before, and lighter and smoother after.... I have no paperwork to say that the clutch has been replaced, so I guess its original - Ill have to look under there when the weather gets better, and my knee stops being gay.

I wouldnt say that the car is not still fun to drive, its just that my car is in great condition, with 64k on the clock, and the feel of the clutch doesnt reflect the way the rest of the car is... But yes, harder than it should be to push down, and a bit juddery on engagement and changing gear.

I was just imagining that if I was a girl (please spare me the pleasure of what you are thinking!), and if I was (and this is purely hypothetical), I wouldnt be getting on with it - as Im 6" and about 200 pounds, and even i feel its on the heavy side.

:upside: If you were a girl? Clutch problems? I... just can't make a connection here brotha:kungfu: haha

My slave cylinder just died, no warning. I drove my car home one night fine, went out the next morning, went to start her up, the clutch went straight to the floor with no resistance. The car would start, but wouldn't go into gear. Got the replacement part and clutch fluid for like $50 at Advanced Auto, and she's been running perfect ever since

My Plymouth Laser does the same thing. It'll start up fine but when the engine is idling and I try to put it into gear, its tough but the clutch pedal is very easy to push in. So these are symptoms of a bad slave cylinder??? Maybe I should have that replaced.

How do you do that? Is that something i can do at home on my own? Becuz i had a moment where my clutch pedal was stuck to the ground. We had replaced a part of the pedal or near it becuz the clutch was disengagging to high, but after that on the way home, the pedal got stuck twice. It doesnt seem to do it anymore, any ideas?

we checked the slave, it seemed fine. Im going back wenesday to have it looked at

we replaced a part on the pedal that was making the clutch disengage way too high, so we put a new pice that shorted it alot. Wasnt sure if it was that piece and it was breaking in or what. It hasnt got stuck since tho. I dont know really. Its wierd. THe guy said it cud be a kink in one of the clutch lines.

I am having almost identical symptoms of the OP... except the difference is that when my symptoms are occuring, the clutch is HARDER to push down to the floor, not easier. Also, even with the clutch fully depressed to the floor, the clutch isn't truly disengaged fully... I noticed this because of two reasons. 1), when i push it all the way to the floor, there is no "play" between the floor and where the clutch is usually fully disengaged... like those couple inches of play you normally get between disengaging the clutch fully, and then hitting the floor board... it's just straight pressure all the way down... and 2) when i start the car with the gear selecter in 1st gear already, it will start to creep forward slowly as if i am letting my foot off the clutch slightly.
