I wanted to ask, what do i need to convert my 2000 prelude to an obd1 ecu? (besides the ecu and harness of course) I hear from some people that i have to change the distributor, and the injectors to make it work, But outher people say "no just plug in the ecu and start it up" which is it? If you have done this on a fifth gen prelude let me know what i need. THANKS!

So you dont need a tune? why do you want to go obd1 if you are not tuning?

If you are tuning... just use the harness and a chipped ecu or other ems.. and have it tuned... you dont need to change anything else.. now... if you have a SH model. with atts, then its a whole different story.

Ok ive been searching for the right answer, there is no instructions to tell me what to do, i can swap out my ecu no problem, but i dont want to screw with the distributor, or the injectors. But to answer YOUR question i need to switch to obd1 because the SKUNK 2 intake manifold i installed elimiates the egr valve passages, so now my check engine light is on (egr low flow) and half the time the motor wont rev past 3000 rpm, So that means i have to drive very slowly, like a grandma, but if i get one of those pre-programmed obd1 ecu's off this phearus.net website i think it would work, but if you search for this prelude ecu convertion you gey half the people saying one thing, and the outher half saying something else, Im guessing the only thing i can do is buy this ecu, install it and hope my car runs ..at all.. im suprised cause there is probably thousands of 5th gen preludes out there but no one has ever written down the stuff you need to do it? I swear if i get this to work i will write something up, mabe do a video, with step by step instructions, im out

What blake said.

Regarding the conversiĂłn i dont know what write up you need.

Just buy an obdd2 to obd1 conversiĂłn harness and a chipped p72. You will need a tĂşne, cause you cant run with a basemap. And no, you dont Need to change the distributor.

If you dont have atts, you only need a chipped p72 with a tĂşne. This is if you want to keep your knock sensor and iabs, althought the new im you bought doesnt have them anyway.

If you aré getting a túne, you dont need knock sensor, so just buy a chipped p28 And a obd2a/1 or obd2b/1 conversión harness dependibg on the year.

OK cool, Ive just got an e-mail back from this phearable.net guy and he says all i need is ecu ,and conversion harness, I guess i didnt think it could be that easy, might have to wait another week for this new ecu, i dont get paid till next friday, thease guys offer a basemap pre-programmed into the p-28 ecu I can set the v-tech shift point, and rev-limiter, and set my check engine light as my shift light !? I thought that is pretty cool. OK well thanks for the replies, i wanted a second opinion, or two , thanks

I remember seeing on a forum a home-made harness to use two ECUs on an ATTS model : stock ECU for the ATTS management and a tunable OBD1 ECU for engine management.
Was on pgmfi.org I think.
I don't know if it works well though, but I love the idea.

Old thread I know but I have a P28 ecu from phearable tuned for a obd 1 converted h23 blue top that was in my 91 accord (crashed). My question is if I get the conversion harness for the obd2 to obd1 ecu, will I either need to reprogram my ecu or will I need to use obd1 injectors and wire in the resistor box? If so can't I just use a obd1 prelude harness? So I don't have to wire in the box just get a injector conversion kit from ebay.

Another thing, the distributor has to be changed from JDM to USDM which has a external coil, is that a hard thing to do as well? I'm more worried the injectors will pose a problem being they're 280cc as opposed to 345 and my tune isn't made for that.

What do i need to easily convert this to obd1 besides a conversion harness? So it runs really well I mean.

Thx
