I have a 1991 b21a1 prelude that I bought about a month ago. Something I have never seen is now happening! When I push the clutch in completely the starter will engage. When the car is off I can actually start the car by having the key in the on position and pushing in the clutch all the way. This is cool to some extent but when the car is running and the clutch is pushed in the starter engages and well you get that real nasty sound of a starter engaging when the motor is running. I have absolutely no idea what to do. Please Help Me!!

part cool part ouch. i have no idea except maybe a short when the pedal is pushed in a wire under the dash touches the metal of the clutch pedal and grounds the starter wire making it try and start the car. that's the only thing i can think of, check the wires.

Its prolly getting a constant signal.

Lol its ghetto. Just dont use the clutch wires to start the car. Hook up a 12v starter switch directly to the starter and loop the line to the ecu clutch starter signal. That will beat looking for what the issue is.

Remind me to never buy a car from you. I've bought cars that the previous owners were too lazy to fix wiring problems the right way. Ghetto electrical fixes make it more difficult to fix any electrical problems that may come along later. They are acceptable in an emergency to get you home. But not as a long term solution.

Don't be lazy. Find the problem and fix it.

sounds like the key cylinder is bad, or one of the solder joints on the back of the ign wiring is now touching another terminal. pull the plastic shroud off of the steering column and check that wiring. this can happen, i have seen it. has anyone done a remote start or an alarm in the car recently?

You might also wanna check your wires running to your starter mine did the same thing except differently. I would park the car and literally stand next to it with keys in hand and it would still be cranking the motor on its own.

MY fix: i had to swap out the cable running from the starter to the battery and also changed out the relay. It fixed my sticky starter dillema. Hope that helps ya out.

keep us posted!

does it only do it when the key is in the ON position?

if so, you have an issue with the ignition switch, or some piece of wiring nearby.

odds are, your car is trying to run the starter all the time, and the only thing that stops it is the clutch safety switch. when you depress the clutch, you are opening that gate and the starter goes.

test the key switch and check the solder joints on the back of it, as well as the harness that runs down the column. if something is loose or frayed, there's your problem.
