At this age, none of the 80's-90's Honda's have high end aftermarket maintenance parts anymore.
Just order what they will support and do it properly, since its going to be a daily driver.

If its a project, that makes it even cheaper to just stick to off the shelf stuff.
No need to overthink it.

 

Yeah it's going to be a daily driver, any specific brand from a parts store like AutoZone or O'Reilly's? I'm just a little hesitant on what I put in because I've never worked on/owned an interference engine.

Gates makes a timing belt and water pump kit. A large number of people recommend a manual tensioner as well. I have found that surprisingly, HomeDepot has a less expensive price for the Gates kit. Just note that the h23a1 kit is different from the h22a1 kit

 

Thank you for the recommendation! Yeah I've been double checking that, I'm pretty sure it's a H23A1. I was looking at the gates kit actually, I was thinking of ordering it from rock auto because there's other parts I need. Ive also seen mention of the manual tensioner. Just curious on what the issue with the auto tensioner is, does it just commonly fail?

 

I am not mechanical, more of a parts person, but I understand that with the manual tensioner, you can set it the way you want it to be, while the auto tensioner either fails or does not maintain the setting.
