I'm looking into these. Once my radio arrives I will install it and hopefully it will work. Then I can think about replacing the speakers.

Yeah, those 4 inch speakers won't fit your 3rd gen. You can go with just about anything that's 5 1/4" up to 6 1/2" with adapters.

Strange indeed. It's possible that the carbie ludes got smaller speakers than the fuel injected models. Despite having owned two 89 S's I never replaced the speakers in either one. I never even looked at them in fact. I just installed an aftermarket stereo and went with the speakers that were in the car. If I was looking to upgrade the speakers in an S I'd look into to upgrading to larger speakers. Take a look at the speakers you have now. It's easy enough to determine what is in there.

I installed new speakers in my 91 a few months ago. I went with kicker 46csc654 all the way around. They are 6.5 inch. They fit amazing and wow do they sound good. I have a kenwood head unit and it puts out a lot more power than the stock headunit. I am really happy.


Then you need a honda speaker adapter harness. I bought a set of 4 on ebay for cheap. They are all the same.

Speaker adapters are included if you buy from Crutchfield.

You can select your car and it tells you the sizes that will work without adapters and which size will work with adapters (which they will provide free of charge). You also get any needed wiring harness adapters and installation instructions, also free of charge.
