Hey all,

Just got a 3rd gen (1988) Prelude 2.0 S. It's got blown out front speakers, the rears are pioneers but they're unplugged or something because they don't work. How good were the speakers originally? I'd open to potentially upgrading them, are there any good speakers with decent sound quality I can install in the car?

Strange indeed. It's possible that the carbie ludes got smaller speakers than the fuel injected models. Despite having owned two 89 S's I never replaced the speakers in either one. I never even looked at them in fact. I just installed an aftermarket stereo and went with the speakers that were in the car. If I was looking to upgrade the speakers in an S I'd look into to upgrading to larger speakers. Take a look at the speakers you have now. It's easy enough to determine what is in there.
Nevermind. Now its saying they don't fit. Bizarre!

I installed new speakers in my 91 a few months ago. I went with kicker 46csc654 all the way around. They are 6.5 inch. They fit amazing and wow do they sound good. I have a kenwood head unit and it puts out a lot more power than the stock headunit. I am really happy.

Then you need a honda speaker adapter harness. I bought a set of 4 on ebay for cheap. They are all the same.
I'll look into those Kickers.

Stock were junk, but sounded ok for the time.
Just purchase upgraded speakers, but the sound is always going to be to your own personal taste so asking us is like asking the universe for an answer that is all over the place.

Just get what you know you like,
I'm mainly looking for something similar to my 2016 Jeep Renegade. Just some modern sounding speakers, it doesn't have to be anything crazy.

Go to www.crutchfield.com to shop for stereo components. You can select your car and it tells you the sizes that will work without adapters and which size will work with adapters (which they will provide free of charge). You also get any needed wiring harness adapters and installation instructions, also free of charge.
Won't I also need to install an amp or something? Or not necessarily?

How do I know what size will fit?
I just want something that's overall decent. Doesn't have to be great, as long as it has good mids and highs and not muddy bass.
