Hey everyone.
My prelude has several missing / broken things:

- Missing Right Front Fender Side Trim

- Missing Windshield Washer Hood Cover
Image

- Missing Center-Front Honda "H" Emblem

Image

  • Missing Left-Rear Honda Emblem
  • Missing Right-Rear 2.0S Emblem
Image

  • Missing Steering Wheel Horn Button (the little horn diagram)
  • Missing Steering Wheel Honda "H" Emblem
Image

- Clock doesn't work, and the little cover is missing

-Missing Hubcaps

How easy are these to find? I've found hubcaps and the Honda emblem for the rear, but none of the others.

These are all pretty much unobtainable at this point, at least new. Your only source is junkyards, ebay, craigslist, car-part.com (and similar websites), and members here who may have some of those items. You really should have done your research on 3rd gens before you bought yours if your plan is to restore to show room condition, like you said in another thread.

Basically your best bet is to start looking for partouts.

Actually, I think I might have the fender trim and steering wheel button. But I'll have to check my storage. I'll let you know what I find.

Honestly if you are a broke college kid, you will not be able to restore that lude to the way you want too until after you graduate and get a career or at least a solid job that pays above minimum wage so you can put aside a car budget on top of paying normal bills.

This is not a daily drive type of car anymore as things will break or on their way out to break.
My son dailys his lude and we built it to be as reliable as possible but all parts on the car are basically unobtainium like Mike said.

You must either purchase another clean chassis running or not, and use it as a part car or just deal with driving that lude around as is and only purchase parts as they become available from others and part outs.

We had a point a few years ago with all this new 3D printing stuff where we had others offer to 3D print stuff for us as a community, but they quickly realized its not worth the effort on their part with no financial return.

Now we are in another dry spell with barley any support other than what I had established which is mostly performance upgrades that are still too costly for the average enthusiasts in a post pandemic world and economy.

So decide whether you will want to continue this project as a daily or just a project and take your time because it will not be quick.

If you take your time and do maintenance the car should last a while( a lot longer than your jeep i see you own).

But a parts car might be helpful for you. Espically I would think about swapping to FI and ditching the carbs.

I have been dailying my 91 for 3 years now. I have put over 20k miles on it. But My car was super well taken care of before I got it. Now it has 201k miles.

I don't really mean restoring it to showroom condition, I know that won't be possible and isn't feasible. But I can make it better.
I was just referencing what you said in your intro thread about what your plans for this car are.

I mainly want to take my time. I probably won't end up keeping the car forever, more so fixing it and going to a couple car shows and then selling it for a profit to fund what I'd really like. (Shelby Charger or Chrysler Laser)
With the amount of work this car needs you won't be selling it for a profit. Carb'd 3rd gens are undesirable amongst 3rd gen enthusiasts. And 3rd gen Preludes in general do not share anything with any other Honda models. If you're really interested in 3rd gen Preludes, my unsolicited advice for you is to find a fuel injected 3rd gen and sell this one now. Don't put any money into it. If you're just looking for an old car to fix up you'd be a lot better off with a Civic or Accord if you want to stick with Honda. Or just about any other car out there if you're not partial to Honda.

I know almost nothing about carbs so someone else will comment on that but the air intake hose looks incomplete like parts of it going to the front are missing. To me it doesn't look like a Honda design like that.

Those radiator clamps look horrid and will eventually cause you drama. Please replace both the hose and clamps with OEM spring clamps.

Never seen a black power steering fluid cap but its doing the job so all good there.

Your power steering belt is protruding and looks loose but if its working then all good.

I don't like how the positive battery cover is not covering the post properly.

Your engine wire harness going over the cylinder head cover to the alternator does not look secure but this is a carb engine which is different to EFI so maybe I don't know. It looks like its clipped onto the cylinder head cover. Not use to seeing it like that.

There is a protruding metal thing near your thernostat. I think the power steering hose is suppose to connect to it. Its being held in place by zip ties.

Warning you are almost out of brake fluid.

Your engine doesn't look too bad. Needs a little work and tidying up.

I would urgently being checking the engine and transmission oil levels and when the timing belt was last done. The car has been neglected pretty badly and it doesn't look like the neglection started only recently.

To get this car looking mint for a show you are going to have to do some serious, serious work to it. The paint is gone but the panels look okay.

First thing this needs is a deep clean inside out.

Also, take a photo of your boot where the spare tyre is. If your boot is leaking water can pool up in the tub and rust horribly. I have this horrible rust and its not fixable. And its seeped through the back seat into the cabin and rusted everything underneath the console, steering column and all. Its awful.
Seeing rust like this brings you to terms with the cars future.

And you can still find any part for it, you just have to search long and hard and I mean hard. There is a reason everyone else is telling you parts are no longer available for it.

Well actually for a carb, maybe not. I don't have any experience with them, only EFI. 2nd gen people may be able to shed more light than 3rd gen.

Honda's in general are becoming extinct.

This is kinda what show car looks like. For you to get from what you have to that. Lol save yourself the trouble.

By all means don't let anyone put you off if its what you really want but know your going to be moving a mountain.

Also, your power steering high pressure hose looks like its from another model other than the Prelude. And the mount on the power steering bracket for lifting the engine out of the car appears bent. Someones been doing some horrible work on this, a backyard mechanic at best.

You need to do a comprehensive inspection and write up a list of what needs done and then decide if its worth it.

I may have some of those parts.

I have a clock that has one of those 3d printed covers. Not perfect but much better than no cover.

I may have the hood trim.

I may have the front Honda emblem.

I say may because I think I did get rid of a few things as I have no space.

I can look. If you are interested pm me. Id be happy to sell any or all for cheap.

I made it to my storage unit this morning and looked, but the only front fender trim pieces I found were for 90/91 models. The only 88/89 horn button I found is on a spare steering wheel I have, and I don't want to separate them. We could work out a deal if you want the whole thing though. The steering wheel does have "the little horn diagram" you're also looking for.
