Is it usually the pegs on the clock itself? Meaning that the clock needs to be replaced and not just the cover that needs the pegs, or the pegs are on the cover?

also are those buttons next to the buttons? the one on the hinge and the one to the upper left? what do they do if so?

Usually its the cover. I only have one cover out of 4 of my 3rd gens. But it is broken as well. Lol

I scoured junkyards near me for a few years, looking for clocks with intact covers. I found two in the dozens of 3rd gens I searched through lol. They break too easily. There are at least two variations of clock covers. Once the cover breaks it's not likely you'll be able to fix it. Replacements are non-existent.

The little button in the upper left will display the clock if you have the car shut off. If you have a cover you can just press in on the cover and it pushes that small button so you don't have to open the cover to press it. And yes, my clock cover is still intact. 😁 I'm very gentle with it.
