I have a 91 Si ALB auto and mine turns 4K at 70 mph and 3K at 60 mph. The 5 speeds rev about the same rpm from what I have heard. Next year when I get my 91 2.0Si 4WS on the road I will know what a 5 speed does!

 

Actually I was wrong. It does 3500 rpm at 70 noh and 4k rpm at 80 mph.

So not to bad.


You will get used to it.

 

It's not much better with a manual for the 90-91's. I have a 91 2.0si and at 70mph its at 3500rpm, from what I've researched the 88-89's have better gear ratio's and final drives for highway speeds.

Its been well established the 90-91 ludes rev high on freeway speeds.
Its just what it is for this time frame.
I am not even sure you recognize the 55 speed limit on the speedometer from the factory.

Notice that all newer cars do not have that anymore??

 

Oh ok interesting, so having an auto 88 is actually decent then, was just concerned with it buzzing away on the freeway, but then some of that is the buzzy aftermarket muffler…
