A/C blower motor

Do these all suck / blow poorly? or do I need a new blower motor? Was it just a poor design, as only max setting can feel anything coming out.

Also, the compressor keeps going red on me, are there really not remans or replacements available today?

Check the blower for blockage. They blow just like any other car for the most part, there is noticeable differences between the speeds.

You can try resoldering the compressor control unit to fix it. Alternatively, I sell a bypass harness to get rid of it: AC Compressor Control Unit Bypass Plug and Play Kit

Yeah my blower motors in my preludes all blow super good. You might have a blockage like others said. Does the motor sound like it is changing speeds?

A blockage is a slight possibility, like if it sat in a field and mice made a nest inside the heater box. But it's more likely that it's the blower motor resistor. They are almost impossible to find. Here's one solution...


At least one member claims to have successfully replaced the individual resistors.

To find the CCU, remove the glove box and look to the right side. I think 2 bolts mount the CCU assembly to the frame. Don't drop the bolts!

You will probably have to resolder the contact points on the CCU. Also blower motors are cheap on Rockauto if you need to replace it.

It might become clearer if you look at the wiring for the blower resistor. The blower motor resistor consists of three separate resistors. The highlighted resistors on yours are blown, giving you only fan switch settings 3 and 4. The worst that will happen if you keep using it is that the other resistor will blow and you will lose setting 3. Setting 4 is directly wired (no resistor) so it can't blow. You will have setting 4 even if all resistors are blown.

No, I don't think you got me lol. It's the blower resistor. I was answering your question in post #10. The lower speed resistors do not affect the higher fan speeds. In fact it's the opposite. The higher speed resistors will affect the lower speeds. If you number the resistors from 1 thru 3, with 1 being the bottom resister that I highlighted in the circuit above. If resistor 3 burns out you will lose speeds 1 thru 3. But if only resistor 1 blows you will only lose speed 1. It's likely that on yours, resistor 2 is blown and it took out speeds 1 and 2.

Oh I gotcha. You weren't really clear in saying that it's blowing weak even on setting 4. You could have more than one issue going on here. If the blower motor doesn't run at all on 1 and 2 the blower resistor needs to be replaced. If it also blows weakly on 4 you could be right about also having a worn out motor or a blockage. But if the blower motor spins at all on setting 1 your blower resistor is still good. I'd pull the motor and jump it to 12v and see if it's spinning slower than you would expect.
