i have an auto 99 honda prelude with about 101XXX miles. i need to do timing belt, water pump, and tensioner. i also want to do 5 speed swap, but my friend is willing to do that for free if i bring him parts. how much would the 5 speed swap cost around in parts. also the shop quoted me about 800 dollars for the belt, pump, and tensioner. should i sell the prelude and just buy another car but i dont know what car to buy.

personally just sell the car since i got an auto prelude too and if you do the swap, it prob run you between 1500 to 3500 not too sure but if you use the search Button there alot of threads and ppl who done the swap. and as for as your belt, pump, and tensioner goes donot take it to the shop SINCE your friend knows how to do a tranny swap iam sure he can do the belts, pump and tensioner as well. just buy the timing belt kit off ebay or something.

if you wana buy another car it depends on your taste/what you wana do with it and how much you want to spent??????

$700 or cheeper for base tranny from http://www.hmotorsonline.com/
$70 master cylinder
$60 slave cylinder
$50 lines from someones part out
$100 pedal assembly
$150 shifter assembly/cables

Thats about it, not sure if you need axels or not. those are rough estimates of costs, could be a little more or less. deff under $1500 i would think

As for the timing belt/water pump order your stuff from here
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/PartsSearch.jsp
$52 water pump (get gasket to)
$63 for timing belt

Order your manual tensioner kit from here
http://www.importrp.com/product.php?productid=41997&cat=134&page=1

The manual kit if from the h23 preludes but they are much more reliable then the auto h22 ones. cheeper to.

I would keep the car, at 101k its just broken in :) if its in good shape all around then keep it. trying to sell it at 100k w/o having the timing belt done is going to be hard. Little old ladys dont know what it is or does but they have asked me about it on cars i have had for sale. they assume that if its not done before 100k then its just a worthless car lol. not the case but just a thought. Order your parts yourself rather then having the dealer do it, you would pay an extra $100 or more for parts. hope this helps, good luck!
