Guys, while reinstalling the trans after my 1st clutch job, I inadvertently popped out the shift lever about 1/2” as shown in the attached photo and haven’t been able to get it to lock back in. I can slide back in but it won't lock in to place - just comes back out. Before this happened, the trans was in reverse. Before I do anything further (remove the trans or complete the installation), I wanted to get your thoughts on how to resolve this issue. Thanks

Just toss the shifter cables on and call it a day. You can move those around with the cables on or off while the car is off, it won't hurt anything. I've never put a transmission in and not accidentally moved one of those in the process.
