I just finished the tranny conversion for my 89 lude. The 90/91 tranny made my ride scoot so fast ... i was just thrilled. It's like effortless accelleration. But short lived. How do i know if the throw out bearing went bad on it?

wait, are you saying there is a problem??? I thought you bought a new clutch assembly, or did you just get a new pressure plate and/or disc and using a used throw out bearing? I was just about to congradulate you on the install. Hey, don't forget to leave feedback on ebay and maybe make a statement here as well.

i'll do the feedback. I bought a whole new assembly- clutch, plate, and bearing too. i was at highway speed when it went out on me. Is that the risk i run goin above 4k rpm? would it just be the bearing or the could the whole tranny be hosed?

The throw out bearing is under no load at freeway speed... the only time it's loaded is when you have the clutch in... even then i have seen two (out of at least 60) that actually seized up. The vast majority of the time they start making noise with the clutch slightly pressed, that may get worse or go away as you press harder.

If it does lock up then it will make truely horrible sounds when you press the clutch pedal in, and will promptly destroy the pressure plate. It probably won't damage anything else however.

Are you sure it's the throwout bearing not something else? What is it doing?

it kept slipping out of 5th. pulled over to check for anything out of the ordinary. got back on the road and the gears started siezing up. Now makes a grinding sound when i'm off the clutch.

stock throwout bearing? generaly right about the same amount of time as the clutch disk... They start making noise (if you hold it in your hand and spin it) after maybe 80-120k miles...

Always replace all the clutch parts at once, thepressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bearing if it has one(our cars don't) and clutch disk. The hydrolics wear at a totaly different rate so leave them alone enless they are either dead or leaking.

slipping out of fifth, I had that problem for the past week. the culprit, leaking seals and loss of tranny fluid. check the fluid and make sure it's not low. did you replace the axle seals??? if not that may be the problem. I was intending to replace mine before installing this tranny but somehow forgot

Going to pump some life back into this thread....

Anyone know if you can use a 88-89 throw out bearing on a 90-91 transmission conversion? Im running the 90-91 flywheel, clutch and disc.

Are they all the same?
