I'm in the planning stages of my 89' build and was wondering what the prelude in it's stock form has to improve on. I'm not looking for performance, rather just reliability and overall drivability. The point of the build is to get together a prelude I wouldn't feel bad about dailying and won't be a complete pain to maintain. I figure almost 30 years of troubleshooting this car has turned up just about everything that can and will go wrong with it. Also might help the community to get together a somewhat comprehensive list of problems (and hopefully solutions).
Also, by problems, I mean ANYTHING that can go wrong, however small. Body flaws that cause rust to form in certain spots, wiring issues, etc.
Thanks!
I'll try to update this post with the list whenever I can.
The best you can do is create a comprehensive list of problems in YOUR car. Every car has different gremlins since there are thousands of parts in every car.
If I were you, I'd stick to a summary of problems as you go. It will be a "Refresh Journal". We'll try to contribute as you go.
As mentioned already, there is a thread which covers most common problems that people have come across (the FAQ sticky). It's far from comprehensive, but it's probably better than a new thread will be. Not for lack of trying, but because of a limited base of knowledge. Back when this forum was young, there were dozens of members who would post on a daily, if not hourly basis. There were always new threads to look through. With lots of interesting technical discussions. As time went on, more and more of the experienced members left. Of course we had new members join (many of them knowledgeable), but not at the rate at which we were losing them. Now there's just a hand full who post regularly, and it's mostly members who are new to 3rd gens. So the knowledge base is just not here anymore in comparison to what it once was.
Well said. I'm a newb to Gen3 Preludes but not a newb to car forums. Over time, you'll see most of the platforms are the same and you can gain proficiency with use. It's especially fun to find an old thread that covers a subject and eventually finds a solution or two. You'll often find me attempting to complete old threads or request closure. Google will find those for years to come.
Forums like this are being abandoned for newer car forums and new social media platforms like facebook, instagram, twitter. If you ever see me Tweet, please shoot me. I can't think of anything dumber. Sorry if I insulted anyone and I'm old. That's my excuse?
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
