who here has done this conversion before without the dash harness? I am in the process of doing it now. However, before I put the pins inside the sockets, Does anyone know if I put in the wires Left to right with the plug like this:

or like this:

also, is there anyone with an AT tranny thats done this?

arent the wires from the clock the only ones that come from the middle of the dash? if it doesn't work out my way, i will post and let you know what way NOT to do it. it seems easier to me in the long run in case i have to swap out the thing.

thanks for your help!
lol just listen to me. I did this like 3 times already.
Mooney,

I must beat you with a stick... My advice is to extend all of those wires 12" each... You can use connectors or anything you like after that... But, once you have the wires extended, all of them will reach where they need to go. On the NON-EL dash wiring most of the wires come out of the lower left side. On the EL wiring, this lower left side is the auto plug. So, most of the wires need to be run over towards your tweeter. There are a few wires that will be short runs, but more than half of the wires need that length to go left for an easy install.... And, its honestly just matching colors up... Alot simpler than you can imagine...

Test it out and zip tie the wires together to clean them up once done to give you that professional look...:sarcasm:

Jonathon,
Feel free to call me whenever bud..

thanks jtc! it works...i just have to cram the wires in there.

I used the 3M connectors. The hi-beam light doesn't work, I'll have to search and fix it

edit: it works. the dimmer works and the hi-beam works (i checked the wires and had the wrong ones connected -- oops!). So, I think all of it works now - blinkers, hi-beam, srs, etc. Thanks again JTC for the gauges and everyone on here. Good news - I don't have anyone questions! Any JTC, you may need to beat me with a stick next time. I just wanted to make sure I had covered everything before I ran into unforseen problems.

editv2: trip memory no worky :( and I am not going to fix it right now. If I decide to change colors, I'll look into it then.
When you did this did the needles and odometer light up? When I connect those pins the needles and odometer don't light up, when I remove power they light up for a sec and then go out. I'm looking at the wire diagrams to see if I'm missing something. Any ideas?
I figured this out, the dimmer switch has to be plugged in.
:turn:
^^ Was there a point to your post?
no, i just found it funny. nothing personal. i just thought u would have the dimmer pluged in. no offence to you.
im sick as a dog in class, i needed something to entertain me.

Its all good, just one of those things you don't think about while you're in the middle of it.

Damn the EL's are sexy!

did I ever tell you that I drilled a tiny hole for my 4ws indicator light on the face? Well I never posted a pic but this is from a few months ago:

hacking the two EL clusters:

my 4ws indicator light: lol

btw, I know some of you may be wondering about the funtionality of the OEM fog switch location in the 92-93. I was going to do a write up on how to utilize it when switching the harnesses. However, its self explanatory just like my LED 3rd brake light. Just hack open the stock 92-93 dash harness. (wear laytex gloves if you have, it gets sticky)

Follow the wires for the fog switch harness. Mark what pins they go into the harness as well as find where they are spliced into. Then color match and pin match on the EL harness. done!

sean, that looks pretty good. do something about that AWS light tho=]

besides that, did you tiny yours blue sean??

and bboixtc, a nice mini writeup for the foglight wire will be nice, but cant you just use the 94-96 way of wiring the fogs? like do it how everyone with these years wired them up??

Whats wrong with the light? You mean the fact that its on? The car wasn't started when I took that pic!

I changed it to blue by using the blue acetate.
no u should get some like red film to put over it so its not white. it would look a little better and cleaner. but im not complaining. do it like you did your blue conversion.

btw, did u make that whole yourself? there were no 4WS 94 models were there? eh maybe im confusing myself.
so what did you do about the mileage? theres pretty much no way to correct the mileage other than reprogramming it, right? i found the whole conversion in a junkyard but opted not to get it due to the wiring involved and mainly for the mileage problem. :( it sure looks sexy though

Its actually blue. The person who had the cluster before me cleared it (stock yellow) and tried to "color" it blue.

The last year for 4ws was 94.
