Hello everybody, I am a new prelude owner and I know to stay away from automatic 5th gens but I could not pass up on this 97 prelude with a little under 70k miles and it was garage kept. I notice a jerk however whenever I switch from park to reverse or drive and I want to be ready for when the auto goes bad. So I found a manual transmission with 40k miles on it and was wondering if $600 is a good price for it. So in short is $600 worth it for a manual transmission with 40k miles? And would a type sh transmission also work for the swap? I’m checking it out this Friday and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You would want a base model transmission, not an SH transmission.

I paid 200 for the spare transmission I have. I'd say keep an eye out for something in the 400 or less range.

I looked online and saw some going for $1,500+ with 90k miles on the transmission (manual). But with some further searching I found one with 40k miles on it, manual, and now I know a guy to do the swap. I got it for $600 but he also gave me the intermediate shaft and slave cylinder so I think this was pretty good and now I can go to him for the swap.

I'd say that's not too bad seeing as the halfshaft can be a pain to source.. I personally prefer a new master and slave cylinder when doing a clutch job.
