an old issue of SPC gutted a new, stock, 350Z
they got 600lbs out of it and made it a rolling tin can...
before and after tests showed it was actually slower in the 1/4 mile
but slightly faster in the slaloms(fraction of a second)
they said this was because the suspension was not rigged for less wieght.
but they also added that with an aftermarket suspension
(like i, and so many of us have)
the gains in: 1/4 mile, handleing, and FUEL ECONEMY!! would be significant
I am asking if anyone has gutted there lude, or took unessesary
parts out. my lude is not a dialy driver, its strickly a racer.
(i ride a bike to work, i love my lude that much)
any knowladge on how to take stuff out would be appreciated.
everything can go, carpet, sound deadening, plastic, etc
i just need to know where to start
and how to get the hard stuff off with out breaking it
but if i have to its ok
thx

how serious about this are you? You can get to rolling tin can status. Someone made a full list a while back but....

seats and interior out (door panels, bla bla bla)
fiberglass/cf racing seat
carpet, sound deadening, spare tire (duh)
ac/ps removed
cd player is like 2lbs...
use duct tape instead of a shift knob
sunroof remove
headliner, a/c vents, lighter steering wheel
cf everything

I dunno, that's probably like 100 lbs

i'm amazed they got 600lbs out of the Z

ok...
i took almost everything out and i can really feel the differance!
hollydogshit! its faster than greased owl shit through a tin horn!
it takes turns like a go-kart! i got sh, atts too!
one final question, the back seat rest, not the seat but the seat rest, the thing that folds back, where is the bolt to get that off?

P.S.
I GUTTED my car, to the point of being rediculous!
i am thinking about byeing ear-plugs because the sound is so defening inside...i took everything out i could and but in on an electronic bathroom scale, weighing each part, and it totaled 260 lbs + the 80lb sub woofer setup i took out! i only have my door speakers and my rear speakers, but i'm gonna take them out cause i can't hear them anyways...
i'll send some pics soon

so are you making your car allrace?

cuz if not, it seems a little overdone and useless imo. it's a prelude, and it's still going to be heavy no matter what amenities you rip out.

I'll keep my full interior car, thanks. 260lbs and going fully bare with no creature comforts, all for the sake of shaving maybe three tenths off your 1/4 ET is simply stupid.

hmm...

yank the full interior, including the under-dash stuff, like the heat/ac, and the windows?

no cruise, a/c, maybe power steering under the hood?

that together would be 200lbs, easily...
Yes. Simply. Stupid. 3 tenths (again, very conservatively) for a stripped down car is not a worthwhile sacrifice to me at least.

Sport Compact Car also did a feature where they attacked a sentra SE-R with a sawzall. Stock motor, ran 13's. No interior. No glass. No bumpers, hood, trunklid, roof, doors. Floorpan cut off completely behind rear suspension mounts.

So yeah, weight reduction makes you faster. Just don't get stupid with it.

i'll keep the interior in my lude. i bought the lude because i like the styling, inside and out. its not the most luxurious ride but its still nice. if i wanted a full out stripped race car i would have gone with a hatch and a h22 or k20. the lude is not really a drag car.

like i said before....my baby has ambitions to be full race. and why do most people assume i want 1/4 mile performance?...i find more joy in taking a curve at break-neck speeds, than going really fast in a straight line...lol (i.e. auto-cross) and i do plan on having a roll cage in the near future.
once again my question remains: where are the bolts to remove the back seat rest, the folding part of the seat.thats all i have left then i will be completely bare...thank you

^^ i think that's what he was talking about

whoever mentioned the sentra, yeah that was amazing.

And thread starter... I'm not sure I believe the bat out of hell difference you're sayin. I'd like to see the scale with 260lbs of stuff on it. You couldn't have removed that much weight and not been able to figure out how to get the back seat off.

edit- oh 80lb sub box, that's maybe more reasonable.

I don't know how to post a PDF on this forum. I only have the Acrobat reader and that's it. I had to save it on word, why do you want me to send it to you fly?
