thanks!!! actually i was researching this alot myself. i found out the egr valve can play an important part in your powerband. so i went out just to check it out for visable problems. and found a disconnected vacuum line. took it for a ride and it rides better then it did before the mis-shift! ill keep an eye out for the light. if it persists... i found this..

12 - EGR: Exhaust Gas Recirculation Lift Valve - P1491 (insufficient lift), P1498 (high voltage)
You need to clean your EGR valve and possibly your ports as well.

thanks.. ill look into the knock sensor. i know without the cel code its a shot in the dark.
it came on twice yesterday, so now that im getting pissed at it, its going back asap. it doesent seem like getting the code will fix the problem. but i guess its square 1 for a reason.. . im only told about the CEL because i ask my wife.. so im not sure how often it goes into this lag session.. ill be sure to let you know. Sounds almost like a broken/missing/unplugged knock sensor to me.
Definitely get your CEL working.. that's by far the easiest way to figure out what's wrong. Anything we have to say is going to be a rough guess..

|01prepre||don't know. when they wired it in they didn't put in the jumper harness to check. its going for that soon. i searched but couldnt find a pin out for what wires i need for it. i can shut it off on the highway and restart it and its gone for a week. i thought maybe gas cap but i drove around with it off trying to make the light come one. so i know its not it. also today, at a stop sign directly after one of these lag sessions, i shut if off and restarted it took it for another pull and it was just fine.|

|rude92lude||i actually had the power loss problem ( not the knocking though) when i did a jdm h22 into my 4th gen. ill double check with the performance shop that fixed it (although its been a few years, and they may not remember ). If my memory serves me right,if youre looking at your motor from the front bumper, on the left top, near the dist cap, youll see a blueish green electrical plug in, dont ask me what its for, couldnt tell you, and then more toward the intake manifold theres another, mine were backwards i beleive and thats what cause my trouble. try unplugging them and plugging them backin, and see if that helps.|

jdm H22A problems... help please?
first ill introduce you to my wife's car.. we have an 01 prelude called "prepre."
we have a usdm auto prelude with a jdm h22a 5 spd conversion. jdm ecu. non-atts lsd trans. (truly a bad ass car.) long story short we had issues with the crank on the h22a4. so i swapped this baby into it. running through the gears one day i mis-shifted and took her all the way up to 10k. luckily the engine didnt go boom. however i did back the clutch up against the flywheel, ripping it off the crank.. but thats another story... heres my issue.
after the mis-shift my paranoid ass sent it to my local performance shop for some testing. leakdown and compression came back in honda factory specs. so all is good here... now weeks later, i get a random cel. when the car is shut off and restarted it goes away for a week before it comes back.. very random light. no one condition makes it come on. now..
it has its random times when it just doesen't want to run. ill be in just say 2nd and floor it at 2k. it pulls like it should, but the moment it crosses 4k it has NOTHING! significant drop on power. v-tec is fine. hits hard like before. but if its in its "lag moment" even v-tec feels sketchy.
on another random start we had a knock. shut it off, add some oil, restart and gone. i dont know why it knocked.. so i ran the hell out of it then let it idle in front of me for nearly 2 hours with no bs. so now im really confused.. why the knock? the valve is loud on a cold start, then when its warm it just sounds like a honda.
in a nutshell....
mis-shift left sticky valve.
had valve lash adjustment.
daily driven minimum of 30 miles a day.
no problems besides the random cel.
does not go into a "limp" mode. -feels fine.
no vacuum leaks.
no idle problems
mobile 1 oil every 22-2500 miles.
if anyone has experienced this before please let me know what you did to fix it! im tired of losing power.
wideband soon to keep tabs on AFR.
