'89 4ws what size rims?

I have the stock 14" rims right now. I like the way they look but I can feel the tires roll under a bit when i corner and I thought new rims might solve this? What is a good size? I was looking at some 17x7.5s from sears. Is this a terrible size or terrible place to get them? I have no idea what I'm doing so any help is welcome!

I wouldn't go wider than 17x7, and usually anything thats at sears is either a junk wheel, or overpriced. And probably both. Sears is a shitty place to take your car, I hear nothing but bad things about them.

ANYWAYS, I'd go with some 16s and a better tire. I have 17s on mine, and while they look good, I'd rather have a smaller wheel and a taller tire. But a good tire will have a stiff sidewall, and a taller sidewall on a better tire will generally handle better than a 40 sidewall or something similar.

You'll never stuff a tire under there that requires a 7.5" wide wheel, so all you'll be doing is carrying around the extra weight which will rob power, fuel economy...etc.

But IMO, spend the money now on some quality lightweight wheels and you'll be happy with them for a while. I spent a grand on mine and that was...6 years ago? I only wish they were a smaller size, but they're still as good as the day I bought them.

I agree with jlude. 16s are a perfect match for 3rd gens. 17s are okay if thats what you like and 18s are a big no

and your going to buy rims at sears? lol what

Haha thanks guys! I will look for some 16x7. I was going with sears because it is one of the few options in Hawaii. The only other place in town is goodyear. Any suggestions for brands or websites to shop? Thanks so much for the info. I know virtually nothing, but I am eager to learn!

I found these at tirerack.com

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...ll&sort=Weight

They seem light and relatively low priced +$230 for shipping. Is that a decent brand? Sorry I need someone to hold my hand!

I noticed the same thing in the picture, but it says the bolt pattern is 4x100. I am gonna check craigslist for a couple weeks and see if I can get lucky unless someone has a better idea? Thanks guys!

I agree with the 16's and be willing to pay extra for a quality, light weight wheel and hopefully you can get the wheels you want entirely on your first try. Craigslist is always a good source to locate a set of local used wheels. You can also check on other Honda forums.

Prelude of the Month
lightweight 15's if you are really fussed about weight.

My preference is for 16's though. I have a set of both and I prefer the handling on the 16's.

"Most approximate photo shown below. Explain

"

They show pretty much the same picture for every vehicle and size wheel you select, within that wheel style.

Those actually look pretty sharp! The weight is a good weight. Never heard of the brand. I would ask tire rack to make sure they have center caps because at the top they say they don't and at the bottom they say they do. Could try http://1010tires.com or http://discounttiredirect.com too.

16x7 inch wheel with 205/40. Have your tyre shop see what offsets are available and fit the lowest offset you can. It will increase your track and improve stability without doing any other mods. Plus if your car is lowered you will be much happier with how the wheel sits in the guard.

I work at a Sears Auto Center and its like any where else you have the people who know what there doing and the people who dont. But I wouldnt get them at sears their rims are pretty pricey and you can get nicer rims for cheaper online. Oh and the other day at work a kid came in with a 4th gen lude and it needed two lower ball joints and they quoted him $1100.00 ! I told him to go to another shop haha.

Is this sort of a general rule-of-thumb in your opinion?

I've pretty much decided on 15" wheels (from all that I've read here), and most folks who run 15s have 15x6.5 or 15x7. But the "bigger is better" side of me is interested in a 15x8. I know what a 195/50/15 looks like on a 15x8... and I like that.

But I don't want to adversely effect my suspension or handling...esp with the 4WS.

Sears is also notoriously pushy for the upsale, even to the point where mechanics complain about it.

tires / wheels

Take any price that you find on tire rack to a discount tire and we will match it. I just got some 17's for my 1990 si with 215/45/17 bfg's. I like the set up. Konig.com is always good if your looking to save some money but look nice.
