Walker "SoundFX" muffler? Has anyone used it?

My car currently has a Pacesetter cat-back exhaust that needs replacement. The midpipe rotted out where the hanger near the cat is welded on a couple weeks ago, and the hanger ripped itself out when I went over a bump - leaving a hole the size of a half dollar in the pipe. Upon removing it this past Sunday, I found that my tail section (which I was going to reuse) is rotted pretty good too, so I guess I've got to do all of it now. I am looking at replacing my exhaust on the cheap - just need something to make my car driveable again, but would rather not go with the generic stock replacement type stuff.

In my searches, I found one of these mufflers going for about $52 on RockAuto.com. It looks...ok, I guess, but I have never heard of this before, and searching here yields nothing on it. I know Walker makes average quality stock replacement exhaust parts, but don't know much about the "SoundFX" line of mufflers. They also have something called "Quiet Flow" which doesn't sound like something I'd want

Has anyone used one of these? If so - how does the sound compare to stock? Do I need to get the chrome tips separately, or is the muffler used as is?

Also, what other options do I have for a cheap direct-fit muffler? I'm looking to keep the look of the factory dual tips, as I hate the single huge tip style. No offense to anyone who has that, it's just not my cup of tea. Also, I don't want to mess around with universal cans and the associated "make it fit" work, like welding / rigging hangers and playing with fitment, etc. All I seem to be able to find in searching is information on the Thermal (nice, but too pricey for me right now), custom jobs (trying to avoid that) and the Pacesetter, which I am replacing.

Any thoughts / input is appreciated. Thanks all.

soundfx and quiet flow sound pretty much the same.... stock sound level.
quietflow is stainless in many cases and is an exact copy of the baffling used by the oe. wear soundfx is aluminumized steel and somewhat generic.....
soundfx will get the exhaust quiet again cheap. but don't expect more than two years before you have a hole in it.....

Sorry bro, its going to have to be a local shop or one of the known aftermarket setups that you already said you do not want or cannot afford.

We are 3GP's and no one stocks things for us on purpose.

Thanks for the input guys, think I'll probably pass on this for now and keep looking. I guess that's sort of the opinions I was expecting. Figured there'd be a bit more buzz about it on here if it was actually any good

And, I looked at the walker diagrams for it a bit closer - it seems they show the connection between muffler and pipe as using a 1-3/4" clamp seems a bit, uh, small, for a primary pipe. At least the Pacesetter has decent diameter mandrel bent pipes - well until they rust out anyway, that is.

Yeah unless you pull an LSD or Thermal off a 3GP in the junkyard, you are not going to get anything for cheap. Unless you just get another Pacsetter and just have it ceramic coated to protect it much longer. But after have it coated it will still cost you the same price if not more for a Thermal Exhaust.

So, eh... its up to you. Good luck.

meh isn't pacesetter cat back painted with their crappy paint? You would have to totally remove that before ceramic coating. More money unless you do it yourself.

Yeah...I was thinking if I did end up with another Pacesetter somehow, I'd strip off their crap paint and repaint it with better stuff, and in multiple coats. Hopefully that will keep the rust at bay for another year or two...

Ordinarily, I'd opt for one of the nicer exhaust systems - but, maintaining 3 cars with all the top notch shit gets expensive quick. Both of my other cars that I currently have on the road popped their radiators last month (that sucked), and I just bought a differential to upgrade one of my other cars yesterday...

This hobby is getting expensive

If you have a compressor and paint gun I think the true ceramic coat I bought was from http://caswell.com Holding up good so far. I followed the recomendations and sand blasted the downpipe with alluminum oxide. from tsc store locally. You can find painted pics on that recent exhaust thread where I linked my polyurethane exhaust hangers in blue. Or just search my userid for the sam. Great pic that shows energy suspension bushings and the blue polyurethane exhaust bushings. If needed I will copy and paste.

Nothing quite that fancy here, I'm afraid...whatever I do has to be available in rattlecan form I do have a decent compressor, but it's 700 miles away. I got some VHT hi-temp flat black here that I may use - I don't know how well it'll protect against rust though. But, it can't be worse than what they put on it from the factory at least.

I'll have to check out the pics tomorrow, as it's way past my bedtime...gotta be up for work in 3.5 hours. ugh.
