Fuel filter. What a Biotch!

Hey guys I'm trying to change my fuel filter out. Easy on all other honda's but damn this ones a biotch. First of all I cant get more the one hand on it. Second of all I'm trying to break the 14mm bolt loose on the bottom side first and i can't get it. I mean I have pretty big arms from working on jet engines all day and can't break this damn thing loose. Wtf? Any advice or tricks you guys have I would love to hear. Thanks guys.

I couldn't get mine off at all, so I just took it to the shop. Now when I replace it though, it's a breeze.

I couldn't get the bottom nut loose either had to take it to my mechanic. A crow's foot adapter helps a lot apparently.

It took me 45 mins to change out my fuel filter. I did it in the drive way and used the crow's feet for under the filter and a few tools with a air ratchet to take apart the top. I think the thing i hated the most was getting the bolt back on the strap that hold the filter in place. Crow's feet = 80 bucks but so have have saved me over 15 hours of easy working on cars time in the past month.

my mechanic told me after doing my clutch, rear main seal and fuel fillter this summer, he would rather do the clutch and rear main 100x again before doing the fuel filter once ahahahaha

I had no idea when I brought him the filter that it was that much of a hassle!

I changed mine about 2 months ago and yes its a bitch to loosen that bolt. It was me and my friend trying together, untill finally it broke loose and in the process bent the old fuel filter we were putting so much force into it.

Fuel filter is a PITA.

Even my honda dealership wanted no part of it.

Likewise I simply could not get the bolt off mine. Gave up and took it to the dealership. Only time I felt taking it to the dealership was a good plan and worth the money.

According to the Honda manual and the techs at Honda , the filter does not have to be replaced during the life of the car so this could be another case of people fixing things that are not broke . The fuel line pressure regulator is more then able to compensate for any additional back pressure that the filter presents to the line over time as long as its not clogged . I know that all gas station fuel pumps are equipped with fuel filters on their pumps which would make the cars fuel filter somewhat redundant but I am concerned with the possibility that over time the fuel might break down whats inside the filter on the car . After removing the old filter , do you think you could break it open so we can see whats inside one of these filters and the condition of whats inside after many years of use .

I replaced my one today the filter was full of crap and was semi black. My car is 1999 to it's been there for 10 years. I think you are totally wrong. Replacing the fuel filter is a great thing. I have noticed a little bit more power in my car as well. When I cleaned the old filter out all that came out was black gas and a whole lot of dirt. If we didn't have to replace the fuel filter then why would they put how to replace the fuel filter in the honda manual? Im sure that it said if pressure goes below a certain point or watever that you have to replace the fuel filter. I woudnt want my fuel pressure line regulator to over heat now or get abit on the cranky side. Now it has a new hamp filter from honda . Yes it was a bitch and it does require a crows foot. Only costed 25$ from sizes 10 to 19 wohoo!

I did my fuel filter while I had the head off for the head gasket replacement. At that time it was easy peasy japanesy!

The picture shows that the filter is know where close to being clogged , but because its a paper type filter , that concerns me and means that I am going to have to replace mine soon . I guess the techs at Honda know how big of a pain it is to replace the filter and are trying to get out of the task of replacing it . I got a estimate for the replacement of the filter a long time ago , don't remember how much it was , but it was enough to make me want to put off replacing it .

did you know: the cleaner your fuel filter, the easier your fuel PUMP has to work. imagine what the honda techs have to say about replacing your fuel pump, my good man. i'm sure they'll make up any excuse to not have to pull out your gas tank, and fuck around in there. one of the most dangerous aspects of being a mechanic, next to working under a shitty lift. :P
