That picture is actually many years old. It part of a whole set showing how they prepared the baby and then them eating it if I remember correctly.

The actual origin is unknown though, I've seen sites that claim they are from Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, etc.

Real or not? The whole set I saw was pretty fucking convincing...

well considering the Chinese unit of currency is not the "yan", instead the Renminbi I don't think it originated in China. The closest currency to Yan that google can come up with is Yen.

Also, I believe the first article stated that the dish cost 4000 "yan"(assuming yen), which would be a little over 44 USD.
