Fyi, there is no difference in the exhaust for 4ws. I'm running an exhaust from an 89 non-4ws on my 89 4ws lude.

There are no replacements for OEM other than Honda, I would just go to the muffler shop and have them make you one.

i agree with sean, either find someone capable of bending you the tube, or find a good muffler shop

i thought i found a nice stainless section for $90 online but i cant find it now. i dont want it to have all the crinkles in it that they do at most shops.
so unless i buy a full catback im pretty much screwed?
whats a good priced one where everything bolts up and i can bolt to the stock muffler if i want. i want my quiet. im not looking for any noise what so ever. i want my stock car to sound stock. the junkyards seem to be chopping off the flange after the cat so i havent found one worth snagging yet and like said all have been pretty ruff.

They do that at one of the junkyards I go to also. They told me that they are required to remove the cat, so they cut it off rather than try to unbolt it. It not only ruins the section you are looking for, but it also ruins the downpipe.

A muffler shop should be able to make one for you for around $100. But if you want mandrel bends it will be significantly more.

ive never had it done at a shop. i have always bought premade kits like on my mustang. its usally thicker stock. shops like to use thin crap and i just dont like the look of a cheesy accordian like bend.
whats the stock size for the piping and doesnt the mid/intermediat pipe contain a resonator that looks like a cat somewhat? the junkyards are chopping off the cat and resonator together but if they chop one off and leave the resonator like they should im good.
i live across the street from the pull a part. so i think im going to take a look right now since im waiting for the shop to call me when they finish my clutch

Why not just get the full catback for close to $200 instead of getting raped by the muffler shops for a little section of metal? If you don't exceed 3,000 RPM's much, a new cheap catback won't be that noticeably loud.

Where are you located?
Yeah for about $200 I found a full stainless catback on ebay.I should really save up for a new drivetrain or rebuild since my car has 225k on it before I buy exhaust. I can get the pieces off a junker and weld up a new pipe.

You know that in Auburn we have Stans Headers, and they do true mandrel bending and have different guages of metal. They can produce the back half of your piping.

They charge $93 an hour a plus whatever material you choose.

The can produce good mandrel bent system for you.

yes i have heard of them. arent they over by DG machine?
im going to weld up my own from what i find on some junkyard ludes. by chance are any accords the same exhaust wise?
i called foriegn engines in lynnwood and they are out of b20a5 and b21 motors. but they run 900 if they had some. Sean do you know any places up there that stock jdm lude motors for the same price or close?
when i shopped around for my old civic i found foriegn engines to be the cheapest for d15 and the sohc 1.6 d series zc motors. i got the zc for 600 and a d15b2 was 450 jdm 1 year warranty. im looking for a back up plan on my lude and im not wanting to do a h22 which are 1200 and i would need a new trans, ecu and what not. i know im off topic but i figured since you posted i would ask you since i know you know your stuff and your local

look what i found on a 88 lude at pull a part. its bigger than stock, almost looks stainless has that golden haze color. anyways i doubt it is but in the pic you can see where they fed the stock pipe into the new on and its fairly bigger. the resonator is toast though. im not sure if i should go without a resonator it might be easier. i can step down the pipe and be closer to the size coming off the cat making welding it better

I bought my JDM B20A from Foreign Engines and I got to pick out my engine out of a crate of three of them.

I got the best one, and it is still strong when I pulled it.

I am selling the B20A for $400, I will have to check if its still available cause it was supposed to be sold, but I have not heard back from Chris on it yet.

yea they were the first place i checked since i got my old zc from them and they were good to me when i had problems with it. as for the lude motor, none in stock and not a common engine for them to get anymore. about 900 from them. do they all just say b20a? are there differances?
did you pull yours to do the h22 swap? yea i hand picked the zc too some had cabs some had efi intakes.
so what all swaps in these cars Sean?
im geussing this 5speed is only good with this motor right?

If you are referring to the 5 speed H swap, then yes only swaps that are supported are the B20a,21 and the H22/23 swaps(only 5 speed)

My lude was an auto so I had to do the conversion to 5 speed to make the H23 work. Just way too much wiring to get the auto to work.

i geuss if one was silly they could do a f22 pretty easily. whats the specs on the h23? im interested in it since it less valued than the h22 but isnt it exactly the same minus stoke and head/comp or cams?
the h22 makes more power but how much more? is the h23 that bad?people say it is i dont know.
whats the exhaust situation when swapping in a h series? does it line up close enough?

H22 makes: 195hp/161tq
H23 makes: 160hp/163tq
B20a5 makes: 135hp/127tq
B21a1 makes: 140hp/130ish.. tq

Much more aftermarket support for these motors than our B20's.

As for the exhaust part, all that needs to be done to make it connect is to have the header side cut and re-welded, the muffler shop that did mine cut the flex pipe out because the flex pipe on the H23 down pipe was damaged. It cost me $130 for this. But everyone has different hook ups, I just paid them what they wanted because my lude was loud.

Looks like you've got your exhaust questions sorted out and answered.

I just had my intermediate pipe replaced 2 days ago. Pipe was $28 and Labor was $70. I decided to stick with the stock exhaust system...intermediate pipe was majorly rusted out in a few places, as was the orig muffler. I ended up ordering a new OEM Honda muffler and the shop welded it to the intermediate pipe--btw I kept the stock midpipe resonator. AND the intermediate pipe was bent correctly, no crinkles, etc. I'm super picky. Now I can barely hear my exhaust.
(special thanks to acedude180, wjmj, and granprix for their help and prompt replies!!!)

Good luck with your Lude!

Nice find - I am pretty sure that the pipe is aluminized steel not stainless. Aluminized steel has pretty good anti corrosion properties but is far less expensive than stainless plus it welds like carbon steel making it more economical all around. No matter what it will never look as good as stainlees but it is far more practical.

yeah thats what it is. the resonator is real rusted on the inside. i banged a hole in it with a wrench lol. what will the car sound like with a all straight pipe section? im leaning towards that, less bottle necks in the system. just go same size to the flange. infact cant i buy a new flange to weld up?slighly bigger hole that will still fit behind my cat?

mottoxxxman did a nice writeup on his exhaust that he built under his turbo build thread. From what I understand our cars are really loud without the resonators. If that is waht your going for but I was going to put two resonators in mine but I bought turbonetics exhaust instead of building one. You can get new resonators for real cheap in any diameter inlet/outlet in a multitude of lenghts. I would definatley recommend putting at least one new one in there. Search around on the site and you can probably find exactly what you want to fit your needs.
