So as some of you know, a couple of months ago I had my car swapped to a 5speed and ditched the seriously failing automatic transmission from hell.

Well, I finally got around to wiring up my reverse lights and discovered that the transmission shop that did my swap did something interesting. Usually after a swap is done, you need to short two pins on a 10pin connector that used to go to the auto transmission to make the car think it was in P or N and allow it to start. The shop actually kept the "unit" that's on the end of that 10pin connector harness, it looks something like this:



It's pretty small, appr. 2" square. Obviously I chopped mine of the wires so I could redo them myself. Remove the five screws though and this is what you get:



Turned out that this little "unit" is the jumper for all the different gear selections of the auto transmission, and by shorting the different wires together via the tracks on the inside of it, it tells the ECU what gear the car is in. My transmission shop simply left it in park and attached to the 10pin connector instead of removing it with the transmission. Car worked. All you would have to do afterward would be simply cut wire #3, add a second length of wire to it (so it'd be a T, three ends). Then take the new end and attach it to one lead from the reverse switch of the manual transmission. For the other end, cut wire #9 and attach to that.

If you attempt this wiring be absolutely sure that you can return it to the way it was in case that you cannot get this to work.
