Mmmm My Prelude curse..

Well here's my story thus far...

Some know I've been having a really hard time with my transmission and my car has been sitting in a garage for almost a month and a half.

Where I'm at with it right now is picking up a M2S4 transmission today. Open Diff FTL.

Anyway, a little story line for ya'll

This is where we started. Broken clutch fork pivot. In turn this meant a new slave, throughout bearing, pivot, pivot spring, and fork boot.

So I didn't even have to crack the case to fix this, BUT my 3/4 synchro was pissing me off so I figured hey fuck it ill just do it while it's out.

It took forever to get the parts in from Honda, then the stupid mess up at Synchrotech.

This time gave me a chance to put in my new mounts from ESP. Dopeness

I had to work out of town for almost two weeks so nothing got done, but no parts came either, really didn't matter.
Come back, and crack the case.

Cool. 3/4 Hub/slider/syncro are FUCKED. Good thing I ordered the whole set, still wasn't in yet though.

About a week later my parts from Honda and Synchrotech show up

Stick that shit in there, bolt it back into my car at 2am and pull 2 ribs putting the transmission back in. Good thing my friends dad is a chiropractor.

Get the thing in and the gears aren't working correctly. Fixed it by correcting the position of the pillars/gear selectors.

Word, car moves now. The clutch is fully disengaging or engaging though. WTF pissed as hell. 4 gears also grind HARD and 3 gears pop out of place.

Super frustrated I take it to my buddies shop and tear the whole car down again.

Hrm.. I thought we had JUST replaced this part..

5th gear snap ring to!
O and the bearing washer

Recovered massive amounts of metal from the case.
Cleaned everything up and tore down a GSR tranny for parts, and an accord case for washers, bearings, etc.

Get that bitch back together. I'm doing a quick go around with the impact making sure all bolts are snug then WHAM! All you hear is a huge POP.

Look wrong? That piece shot out and almost broke my knuckle. Swelled up pretty good, luckily my hand was in front of my face.

So now I have a broken case and my parts aren't transferable to another case. (M2B4)

Looks like I'll be open Diff on a M2S4 till I figure what I want to do.

FAIL

Ughgghg, hmmmmmmmmm. Synchs not installed properly? 1000

Sounds like a serious synch problem. But yours are new, so I'd say they werent installed properly in some way.

Sorry to say, but unless you forgot to put oil in it, there is a good chance that the entire tranny needs to come out.....again.

And what do you mean 4 gears grind a 3 gears pop out.....I have a feeling your grammar is incorrect and misleading.....Do you mean "4th gear" and "3rd gear"??

Wow. How on earth did the end of the case shear off like that? Did you drop the tranny at some point and crack it?

Is it wrong that I look at all those gears and swear I'll never open up a transmission ever...

Magical creatures those transmissions are.

They aren't that complicated. I bet if you tore one apart, took a few days to look over everything....you'd come to understand it fairly well...

At least that's my philosophy when it comes to understanding most things in life...including mechanics.

They aren't that bad. Lots of resources around to help you.

Put the m2b4 in and did a few hard pulls and threw some code the car is stuck in a safe mode running far to rich.. Sounds like a diesel and spews black smoke. Gotta check the plugs and codes in the morning.

Don't like the tranny though, lost lots of torque, not nearly as rowdy but way better on the highway I guess.

For the moment... I'll stick to putting them in and taking them out... Taking them apart is a fairly big step for me at the moment.

Granted if I had someone around who knew what they were doing... I might attempt it. I'm still mostly the gofer on the two motor swaps I've helped with... Although I've found out that jdm4life makes an excellent transmission jack.

Unlucky dude, after rebuilding my tranny, I put everything back together only to realize that I forgot to put the diff bearing back in the case. FML. I feel for you!
