Pioneer deck troubles..

Hey, I'm kinda new here but i thought you guys might be able to help out. I just bought a used pioneer DEH-p3000ib and i got a prelude harness and stuff and wired it up and im almost positive the wires all are all matching. So my problem is when i turn on the car the deck starts up as well except i cant get my ipod to play or the radio either for that matter. Theres no sound coming through the speakers.. I do not have a pioneer ipod cable but a hook up through the cigarette lighter. Do i need an ipod cable? And also there is a blue and white coated wire that came with the deck but my harness only has solid blue. I matched those cause they were the only 2 left. Anyone know how i can get this working? Please and thanks

yes you need a cable, and if you have no sound, you either crossed a wire or two, or you have a blown speaker. easiest way to test is with a 9volt battery. you can tap the speaker leads(carside) and see if the speaker pops. if you get no sound, then you have a speaker that is blown. if you disconnect that speaker your sound will come back on. the radio cuts the internal amp if it detects a dead short. ie blown speaker or lead going to chassis ground. the right way to check the speakers is with an ohm meter. if they meter properly, you will get anywhere from 3.4 ohms to 5.6 ohms. the slightest movement of the cone will change the speakers impedence. those are good values and would allow the radio to function normal. if you used butt connectors when you did the install, you will need to cut them out to test the speakers. don't leave the radio hooked up either, if you are gonna do the 9volt battery trick. you are using a harness adapter for the car i presume. if not, none of the colors will match up.

Match up what it says in the headunit's manual to what the prelude harness says. Probably something to do with the wiring. The colors from my HU and harness didn't match what they should have been.

^^ thats odd, most all stereos are standardized now to match up to the aftermarket harness adapters. the only radios i have seen that don't are either really old, or off brands. where did you get your harness from? should be whites and grays for the fronts and purples and greens for the rear. red is accessory, yellow is 12 volts constant, black is ground, blue with white stripe is amp turn on, and blue is power antenna. pink if equipped is usually mute.

You said Blue wire is for my antenna, which i think is my problem because my ipod hook up thing i have right now uses a shitty radio station to play my music but if my antennas npot working then that may be it.... Also i had a shitty nextar deck that came with the car and i dont think my speakers are blown... they are bad though. And i will look into getting a cable

My headunit sucks. Probably why the harness wasn't standard.

if the deck only supports that one wire, then you had it right when you hooked it up to the blue wire. the amp turn on lead will activate the antenna the whole time the radio is on. newer models have both, so when you switch your source to cd or ipod, the power antenna will drop. the way you have it wired, the antenna should be active until you either shut off the headunit, or shut off the car. so if you have sound until you use the ipod, then you may have an issue with the way you wired the fm transmitter. i would check there. if you have the older 3g 88-89, you also had an antenna in the rear glass that may be interferring with your transmitter as well, especially if you accidentally hooked up to it. then basically the radio is using one antenna and the transimtter is using the other. make sense.
