Here is a good question, are you truly overheating or is the guage just displaying its overheating?

Another possibility is the one of the sensors or the guage itself might not be working right, still operating but not operating as it should so giving yo false possibilites.

could possibly be air bound as well. these cars can be a pain to get the air out of the system. that would show the air being hotter than the coolant when it hits the sending unit.

i had that problem, it was the sensor for my fans going bad, and they were turning on and off at the wrong time and just eventually stopped turning on all together. Instead of replacing it, I just wired the fans to turn on when the cars turned on.

is there any other bleeding screw other than the one on the stat housing? cuz i opened that one after filling up the system, and it seemed to come out of there fine.

Sound like low fluid or improperly mixed fluid. If it is all water, or mostly water in the coolant system, it will turn to steam and not effectively be pumped through the system.

Drain and fill with exactly 50/50 mixture. (antifreeze / distilled water) Or just buy the pre-mixed 50/50 stuff.

i just had to rebleed my system because i thought there was air in it. i did it with the car running and a piece of vacuum hose running to the reservoir. had to wait until the thermostat opened to get the rest of the air from the little coolant lines. thermostat is the highest point in the system, and as far as i know, its the only way to remove the air from the system. it was causing my temp needle to move around between normal and 3\4. now that the air is out, i got the needle to stabilize. the fan still came on as it should though.
