new lude

welcome and congrats on wanting to join the elite club and save a lude! :O)

Looks like you got your work cut out for you lol! Must admit unusual for the A pillar to be rotted as badly as that obviously they do go there as that where the rain drips down to and also doesn't help when screens are changed they scratch the paint and don't bother painting it back properly so goes rusty. Looks like you'll need to fully strip everything off all the bumpers and the wings as well as all the top cowling in front of the windscreen and all the window trims. For the trim around the front and back it's worth fixing those properly and when you do not to use the same trim holders, but to use a thick sealant to glue the original chrome trim back onto with. Probably best stuff to use is the same glue they use on the windscreen itself.

Ouch.. I'll be honest with you, if you plan on getting a result that will last a long time without rusting again immediately you are better off scrapping that car asap or use it for spares.

Well for a brief moment when i started pulling it apart i was thinking the same thing but i dont plan on half assing anything! if it takes 5 years then so be it but its just metal and i believe that if a 50 year old car can be taken out of a field and fully restored then a 24 year old one should be no problem ! I understand what your saying so thanks for you thoughts on my 85 swish cheese

Hey everyone Thanks for your comments, so i think i have decided to strip the car motor suspension everything ! then send her out somewhere local to be blasted! I have a sand blaster that i intend to try out first but a shop will be better equipped to handle this job! I have started fabrication on a Rotisserie for easy access to all parts of the cars body. I am working on a system for storage and organization of all parts and bolts and clips to make sure that nothing is lost during the rebuild! I am also thinking about a engine swap, not that my 1.8 is bad cause it runs like a top but im thinking all this effort is gonna be worthy of more!

Engines

Just make yours a 2.0l and do some work on it, it's really easy to get 135-145bhp from this engine with stock carbs. (albeit modded slightly) You can get more from bigger bike carbs as well if you don't mind the extra noise or you could go down the weber route if you wanted to keep it authentic and retro.

i feel your pain, my entire drivers side quarter is rusted out, and yes the other side is on the way to, you can actually see my trunk pop cable hanging out, im too ashamed to post pics of the quarter tho, it makes me cry everytime i look at it, but with only 113k original miles i cant do anything but restore it, good thing i have a parts car i guess

Looks like you've been having loads of fun. I like your lift, what is that a front loader? Keep up the good work, it's always good to see a lude given a second chance at life.
