I think those "sidemarkers" are actually fog lights that are used to illuminate the sides of the road better. Some guy on PO just got some and he said that they have some sensor so that each side turns on when you turn the wheel that way a certain amount. Not sure how reliable that info is but it seems plausible

They are fog lights, but I must confess I haven't experimented with them enough to know exactly how they work. The previous owner set it up like that, so I apologize for my ignorance. I will definitely try messing with them one of these days.

Thanks so much for your comments, everyone.

...and, personally, I do like the look.

Actually, they are supposed to work when you turn on your blinker. In the respective direction. It does help illuminate the road you are about to turn into.
Caddy's have these stock in the US [different shape of course, but same concept]
Also JDM accords have these among others.

So, how did you get your old lude to Okinawa? Did you live there, or did you ferry it all the way from mainland Japan for a visit?

I was stationed in Okinawa for six years. Bought an 89 2.0Si4ws in 2000 and it lasted me till 2006. Sucks that none of the importers I talked to would even talk to me once I said it was RHD. Damn do I miss that car!!

Yeah. I did a whole loop around the Southern part of Kyushu. The trip was 4 days and 3 nights. I actually had to spend one night sleeping in the lude 'cause I couldn't find a place to pitch my tent. I hate to say it, but it wasn't really a comfortable rest.

Prelude of the Month
Again, these are not fog lights. They are called corner lights. When you signal left or right the corresponding cornering light illuminates the roadway so you can better see in the direction you are turning. They are incredibly bright and do a great job. These were available from Honda Access for most cars including 3rd and 4th gen prelude.
