3rd gen wiring !

Did a little research on wire identifications. If you are installing a deck and your wires have been cut or if you want to do an alarm, this list of wiring colors and polarities should help. It is for an 88-91. The list starts with function - color - location - polarity

12 volts - white - Ignition harness - pos
Ignition - black/yellow - Ignition harness - pos
Accessory - Yellow - Ignition harness - +
Starter - black/white - Ignition harness - pos
Tach - blue - at coil in eng. - AC
Lock - green/white - drivers kickpanel - neg
Unlock - green/red - drivers kickpanel - neg
Doorpin - black/white - plug at fusebox - neg
Trunk pin - green/black - plug at fusebox - neg
Brakeswitch - green/white - switch above brake pedal - pos
Parklights - red/black - light switch harness - pos
Horn - blue/red - steering column harness - neg
Driver window up - red/blue - main window switch - rev pol
Driver window down - red/yellow - main window switch - rev pol
Pass window up - blue/green - main window switch - rev pol
Pass window down - blue/yellow - main window switch - rev pol
Headlights - blue/red - light switch harness - neg
Reverse lights - Green/black - large harness in drivers kick - pos
Dimmer - red/green OR red - any illuminated switch
VSS wire - Orange - cruise module on right of column
Key Sense - blue/white - Ign harness - neg

Here are the audio wires:

Battery(+) - white/blue
Accessory(+) - white/green OR Yellow/red
Ground(-) - Black
Illumination(+) - red/black OR blue/white
Power antenna(+) - yellow/white
LF speaker(+) - blue/green
LF speaker(-) - gray/black
RF speaker(+) - red/green
RF speaker(-) - brown/black
LR speaker(+) - blue/yellow
LR speaker(-) - gray/white
RR speaker(+) - red/yellow

Hope this all helps !!!

Mike

VSS = Vehicle speed sensor.

Power lock wires are generally not in vehicles which came without that option. If you are adding power locks, best bet is to go straight to the alarm brain (via relay).

Where were you a month ago when i put my alarm in ? I never could find the door pin wires for my alarm. And I don't feel like taking that crap out and doing it again. I might do it when I buy my door lock actuators, so I can have remote door locks. They cheap on ebay.

i tapped a single wire that feed into the cluster for the "door open" warning light. That was the one listed at the12volt.com and it works like a charm.

Here's a How-to for installing a new deck into the 88-91s, with pictures and audio wires identified as well:

Okay, where exactly is the VSS wire? Are you talking about the plug that plugs into the gauge cluster on the right side? If so, there is no orange wire.

VSS wire - Orange - cruise module on right of column --Not sure what mike meant by that. maybe he is referring to the buttons on dash. Anyway the actual box that is the brain for cruise control and normally called the control module is located behind drivers kick panel and is the big silver box mounted on relay bracket.

Prelude of the Month
just an update for the FAQ but in the Audio section for the battery there's a second option:

Here are the audio wires:

Battery(+) - white/blue OR white/yellow

i didn't have white/blue and took me a while to find out it was the white/yellow
