What's up

Hello everyone. Just doing the customary intro thread. Glad to be here.
I Just bought a red 98 Prelude a couple weeks ago before christmas (it was a good xmas!). I've always liked the 5th gen body style and have looked at preludes for a while.

The catch is that I wanted an automatic prelude for city commuting (yes I know the auto tranny issues). Took me a while to find one in good condition that is not abused by the previous owner.

This car is gonna be my dd and will slowly modify it over time. I also have a 6-speed G35 coupe which is why I wanted an auto for a 2nd car. The G35 also burns oil so I'm used to that.

if its an auto it will fail. doesn't matter if its not been abused even the well maintained ones are ticking time bombs. Hondas in general aren't great when it comes to auto transmissions but the prelude takes the cake in the failure contest.

Thanks for the warning.

I've read all about the Auto trans failures and knew that before buying the auto so I understand the risks.

According to the guide, it is also possible to get an auto tranny that will not have problems.

"Basically, SS Auto failures have historically fallen into two categories:

1) Never had a problem.

2) Transmission went very early on (usually under 30,000 miles), and possibly again afterwards. "

My car has none of the problems or symptoms from that thread. Its very clean and low mileage for being a 19yr old car--currently at 149k. This is also not my first Honda. I've had 4 Accords in the past (91, 94, 01, 08 ) so I'm very familiar with Honda even the autos. If it comes down to it and the Prelude starts having trans issues, then I may sell it at that point. For now it runs perfect with no hard shifts or issues.

But even the manual trans can have issues if you don't know how to drive it. I don't understand how some people can grind or mess up 2nd, 3rd, or 5th gear. I've owned many manual cars before and have never messed up a gear. If you do, then you don't know how to drive a manual.

Here are a couple of photos

Its completely debadged, has tint, alarm, fog lights, and double-din Nav. It originally came with the factory wheels painted black (which I hated) so I bought some 17's. Suspension and front lip is next. I bought a factory spoiler from craigslist but I'm contemplating if I should stay with the wing-less look if I just drop it a couple of inches and get the lip kit.

(with the old wheels)
