1g owners

are there any 1g owners left? if so please pm me.
im sure there are but it just seems like there are none. im sure it partly due to the lack of parts to keep the little cars going. i know thats why mine sits rotting away.

That's no reason to let it sit and rot! I've been able to keep my 1g Accord going without too much trouble... The parts are harder than shit to find, but they're out there! Don't let your poor little 1g Prelude rot away!

i would take it in whole (i just started a frame off restoration on one so i could use the parts) but unfortunately shipping the whole car to Connecticut would be horrendously expensive

there in lies the problem. anyone who would take it cant afford to ship it. im seriously contemplating parting it out but i would want everything gone, hell id even cut the body and ship the good peices if need be. the interior is very nice and tidy too

but like i said i really dont know what i want to do with it

A major problem being that you'd have to import the car into the US, and the engine wouldn't meet EPA standards, being that it's not a CVCC motor. I did run into a Canadian model 1g Prelude at a yard down here, I was going to take the cylinder head, hoping it was the EL engine. But to get the car imported, I believe they had to put the US EK1 motor in it. The chassis had the EL engine tag, but definitely the EK1 motor. It might be old enough to bring in by now though, I'm not sure, since I managed to import two 1985 JDM engines that definitely wouldn't meet EPA smog standards.

Your best bet might be to Craigslist the car and hope someone will want it. It's hard with these old Hondas. They're rare enough that it's a bitch to find parts for, but not quite rare enough that the general population has any interest in them. People just want cars that are fast and flashy and just don't have any idea what they are really looking at.

I dunno why, but it's even worse amongst Honda owners for the Prelude. There are so many fewer 1g Preludes out there than even the Accord or Civics of the time. Not sure why there aren't more restorers and collectors. Accords and Civics seem to have a broader following...

What year is it ?
I want your Head, but I need an 81 or 82.

Donate the car to a charity group who will then have it fixed for a resale or scrapped to a junkyard.
Let us know if you can which junkyard it goes to.

i thought if you take the intake/exhaust with it it didn't make a difference?

If you do part it out you could make more than you can sell it for, maybe. that head/intake/exhaust combo ( if it has an el head) may be worth pulling. they are getting harder to come by.

let us know if you part it. I'm sure everyone here is missing some little thing. If hamilton is close to windsor I would be interested in some things.

The headbolt patterns are different from 81 to 82. 80-81 heads do not interchange with 82-83 engines.

The 1g Prelude uses the EK1 motor.

I thought the 81/ 82 is the same as the 82/ 83 Accord EK1.
or is the 81 different from the 82 and the 82 Prelude EK1 is the only one like the 82/ 83 Accord EK1.
what do ya know ?

I just bought one -- check out my thread in the intro section. They're out there!

By the way, I saw a thread somewhere here about a 1st gen registry -- did that ever happen? If not, can we start one?

*edit* -- I started one. It's rough and simple, but it's a start.

I must have gotten really lucky. I was bored one day, just got back from afghanistan and wanted to go for a drive, but had no car. So I went out and grabbed something cheap without rust. I ended up with a 79 honda prelude. I've had it since july, I drive it to work and back, took it out deer hunting, it's my daily driver. Cost me 1500 and is in really really good condition, was someones trade in. Decent gas milage for an old car, I'm kinda fond of it.

I will, I am getting a camera in two weeks. Well actualy my new gf is moving in and she has a camera. See, the reason I own a 1g, is cause my ex wrecked my chevy k5 blazer 4x4 and I needed something quickly and got this. Damn thing runs like a top. I swear if I could find one of those metal trunk racks to strap a deer to, I would keep it forever. I've owned it since mid aug. -11, 12" of snow...it just doesn't care. No oil leaks, mild coolant issue...but it's not a leak, I suspect that it's venting out of a bad seal in the coolant cap. Tac is not working, but that's just a cable issue, hairline crack in one rear light housing, and the whipers need to be jiggled to turn on, contact is wearing. Overall not bad for 1500, no rust, clean body, heat, air, defroster work, runs smooth, love it.
