Oxygen sensor and spark plug parts clarification - Honda Prelude Forum : Honda Prelude Forums

Hey guys,
I replaced my two O2 sensors with Denso O2 sensors from sparkplugs.com (I got 234-4621 for the front and 234-4092 for the rear), and I got NGK Iridium spark plugs from Autozone. However, when I brought the car to a mechanic today, he said that the rear O2 sensor and the spark plugs are not the right parts for my car (99 Base Lude). Could somebody confirm that these are the right parts or the mechanic is right?

I cant comment on the O2 sensors but i know for a fact the NGK Iridium are right because that is what i have been using for years and they work just fine. If your mechanic is saying they are not what honda uses, maybe i dont know what honda uses as OEM spark plugs. Maybe he was talking about the gap on the spark plug was not right?? IDK but for the NGK Iridium i have used them for a long time and i would highly recommend them.

I would just call Honda on monday and see what they use stock in the O2 sensors and Spark plugs.

The real OEM spark plug is the NGK Laser Platinum(or they call it Double Platinum on ngk.com). The tip is thicker than the Iridium ones. I don't know why but I got fouled up real bad with the Iridium plugs with only 5k miles. So, eventually I bought the Laser Platinum NGK on ebay. Great deal though, $36 for 4 and free shipping. It's been 20k miles and it's still clean so far.

Honda uses NGK spark plugs. I use NGK Iridium IX and they're great. I also use NGK/NTK O2 sensors. Both plugs and sensors are still working well after a few years

NTK is the OEM for Honda's O2 sensors, so they are exactly the same as buying from Honda parts dept. but $100's cheaper

Haha if a mechanic was telling you those were incorrect then you should take the car away from him

Parts are correct when they perform in the range that is required for the car. Did you bother asking him why he even said that to you? Was this his answer for the reason for what you brought the car to a mechanic?

I brought the car to him to to check something else. He said that the gap on these iridium plugs are not correct for the car. He also said that the downstream Denso oxygen sensor that I have on the car is not the right one, and he can tell because the wire is too long?????

Okay well the denso part numbers appear to be correct for your application. Looks like they come wired up with a connector too so thats convenient.

Spark plug gap is silly fix....most likely the same tool used to check the plug gap is the same tool to open the gap.....if its one of those round key chain things.

Seriously though....a mechanic who doesnt know how to fix this probably doesnt know how to check the gap.

Your plugs come pre-gapped .044. I believe the spec range is .041-.044. Always check the gap before installing new plugs. I recently put a new set in and 2 out of 4 were not .044.

I enjoy consistency. Honestly though the heat rangeof the plug is more important.

You purchase heat range #6 which will work for you.

If you are still concerned about your O2 sensors then get a scanner connected and verify that they are functioning within optimal ranges.
