Yes this is a CRX being a Turbo H thought some would enjoy...

From a Crx Forum:

I have owned 3 crx’s. I know every bolt and nut on them. 89, 90, 90. All have been HF’s. I have something for the HF’s

I found the below 1990 Crx HF Rio Red several years ago. I was driving with my parents to look at a horse for my mother out in tim buck two. There it was on a small used car lot off the main road. I check it out and was in love. The interior looked too mint. Exterior was mint no dents, origional paint as well. Later found out the car was stolen and all interior was replaced recently with all new from Honda. I knew I couldn’t pass it up. I came back the next morning and bought it for $2500. I thought it was a steal.

It didn’t stay stock for long…

I installed a JDM H22A back when no mount kits were around. Thus Explicit Speed Performance was started. http://www.ExplicitSpeedPerformance.net .

ESP EF H22A Motor Mount Kit with Goodies...

ESP EF H22A Traction Bar System...

Engine/Trans:

ESP EF H22A Motor Mount Kit
ESP EF H22A Traction Bar System
ESP Clutch Cable/Hydro Conversion Lever System

2.5” Catback Exhaust System
3” Short Ram Air Intake BPI Flow Stack and K&N

AGX 4 way adjustable shocks
Skunk2 Integra Coilovers
Adjustable Front Upper Control Arms
ESP 3 Point Front Upper Strut Bar
ESP 2 Point Rear Upper Strut Bar
ESP 2 Point Rear Lower Strut Bar

Exterior:

Dupont Rio Red Re spray Out Side and Bay

Clear Bumper Lights and Corners
Honda Access EF8 Rain Visors
Interior:
Custom Crx SI Recaro Seats
Custom Crx Floor Mats
Razo shift knob
ITR shift boot

200whp 168trq

The JDM H22A lasted a while and rebuilt it once (re-ring) that lasted a bit till I missed a shift at the track. Then I decided to step up. I purchased a JDM H23A Vtec Blue Top. On average from experience with the JDM H23A Vtec Blue Top will gain you about 10 hp and 10 ft lbs of torque more then a JDM H22A. Couple hundred more, kind of a no brainer.

Added:

Euro R Intake Manifold RoskoRacing.com sells them already modified which is needed
68mm Performance Products TB
ACT HD 6 puck sprung clutch kit
1 piece chromoly 10 lb flywheel

212hp and 174 ft lbs torque. Tuned by James of SpeedFactoryRacing.net He is a great tuner!

The car was running strong and was pulling consistant 106 mph traps. It was a mid 12 second car.
I once again missed a shift… however didn’t blow it, rings went. Still ran but comp was down from 220 to 180. I decided I wanted more power so I went to the darkside and turbo.

Turbo Rebuild:

- 2000 JDM H23A Vtec Blue Top
- Darton MID Sleeves STD bore
- JE 9-1 pistons/rings STD bore H22
- H23 Crower Rods
- Stock H23A Vtec Blue Top Crank

- 60k thick MLS Cometic HG bumps final Compression is about 9.6-1
- Ferrea 6k SS valves, guides, seals
- SuperTech Valve springs and retainers
- Type S cams
- LiL PnP on Exhaust runners

- 880cc Precision Injectors
- Walbro 255 HP Fuel Pump
- Marshall FP gauge and B&M FPR
- 28x6.5.2.75 IC *Recently switched to Precision 600HP IC*
- 2.5" Hot and Cold IC Aluminum Piping RCautoworks.com
- PWR custom EF radiator
- Jaz Catch Can
- 3" downpipe and 3" quick dump magnaflow exhaust
Electronics:
- P28 Ectune and Ectune EBC (boost by gear)
- AEM Wideband
- Autometer Oil press. and Boost

With the Old 50 trim:

Tuned by James of SpeedFactoryRacing.net He is a great tuner!
7.2 psi 330 hp 275 trq run and 15 psi run 411 hp 340 trq... engines breathing pretty good and probably begged for a bigger turbo.

I recently installed Precision 600hp Intercooler 31”x8”x3.5”
Old one was too small and not as efficient 28”x6.5”x2.75” ebay and caused some heat issues...

Upgraded the turbo to bigger Precision SC6176e
At this time also re did my downpipe, wrapped it and my dump tube and put on a turbo blanket.

Also Added a Thermal 3" R&D Catback System.

Downpipe... Dump...

Picture of the Thermal Exhaust 3" yes I need to bend 1 bracket to get it sit straight

Going to the dyno soon… Goal: 450-475hp 15-16 psi and 18-20 psi 500 hp 91/92 pump
Future Plans: Clean up the outside, High 10s in the 1/4 mile and get into some mags
Added Spoon repo mirrors and EDM wing to soon be on the car... Will post pictures as the outside gets more finished in the next month or two...

Here are some pictures of it from the last year or so when its cleaned up

Crx SI Recaros re done...

Verdict is in...

I had my buddy James at SpeedFactoryRacing.net in Tacoma, WA tune it again. He is a great tuner.

James 10.4 1/4 mile old vitara turbo D record car

Comparison:

Old setup: 411hp 341 ft lbs torque at 15 psi 50 trim and smaller intercooler

New setup: 467hp 373 ft lbs torque at 15 psi SC6176e Precision Turbo and Precision 600hp Intercooler

394hp 280 ft lbs torque at 8-9 psi

Car also has a switch as well flip the switch 1st gear 8-9 psi 2nd gear 13 psi 3rd gear 15 psi 4th gear 15 psi

leave swith off runs on 8-9 psi all time... Ectune

I couldn't boost any higher because of the limits that I was reaching on torque on the dynapack

Vids up on dyno !

Great setup. You also made pretty impresive power. Now all you have to do is buy a 4th or 5th gen prelude and swap all the performance parts over then burn that crx to the ground.

Nice set-up you got there, that must be a fast lil motherf@cker. IIRC the HF is the lightest of the CRX's i had a Si back in the day loved it 2 death.

Awesome power! That power band is even more beautiful. I am simply jealous. Good work. I still need to buy a traction bar from you. I need it lol.

I would love to see you attain this 500 hp goal an 91 octane. Not many have traveled into the 500+ power levels on pump. My own personal goal is 400 foot pounds of front wheel torque on my new setup.

Why? I am hoping you take your 400 ft lbs to the track... because that is the only place it will be useful lol.

Why else would I put 10K+ into a prelude? Whats the point of all that power if you are not going to use it. I want reliable power that I can drive to and from the track and not have to put race gas in. It is the best bang for the buck with low operating costs.

So its strictly a drag car? I said 400ftrq would ONLY be useful at a drag strip. Tell you what... go build your 400trq fwd prelude and let me know how much use you get out of it on the street lol.

Have you ever heard of a boost controller? On the street I can run off my wastegate spring, a cool 9psi, then when I go to the track I can crank up the boost and produce more power. It's called a street strip car. Don't you drive one? I guess you have driven taken yours to the track.

Nice build. I love the feel and color of the car, and the power is crazy for such a light car.

Your right, back on topic. What are the future plans for this beast of a crx? I might not like the looks of the crx but I am still a little jealous of this one. Great job explicit.

Thanks for the kind words... Yes if the dyno allowed me 500hp was within reach on pump

1000cc injectors, bosch inline... probably be seeing 550hp 18-20 psi pump...

Yes I am a safe man and getting close to what is safe on pump hp vs torque vs engine displacement.
