wd40 is not even close to the same stuff. PB blaster you spray on and come back 1-2 hours later and that sucker will most likely come loose. If you are only trying to clock the turbo non of the bolts should be that tight. Do the cool side to clock it.

wd40 stands for 40 different kinds of ways it displaces water.

*edit* ok ok not the ways but the times it took em to get it right, thanks for the correction jonbar87

the wd stands for water displacement like you stated, but actually the 40 represents the 40 different times it took them to get the formula right, not 40 different ways it displaces water...not that it really matters but just thought i'd clear that up for you

wow, i just read this entire thread, every single post, just like i promised i would a few weeks ago lol.
i had the ecu done like a week after he paid for it. took me almost a month to ship it though, because i work 8-5 every day, and the post office is only open 9-5. when my shop gets busy i dont even get breaks, let alone a lunch break long enough to leave and go to the post office. i finally had a slower day though that i was able to leave and ship it, which was last thursday iirc. but HJ, i thought you said you already got it yesterday?

to whoever suggested i get a ups account: do you have any idea how expensive it is to ship a 5 pound package to argentina via ups with insurance? it'll never happen lol.

but yeah, sorry for the shipping delay, i've been insanely busy at the shop, and after-hours doing side work, and my own personal things. which is also why i hardly post anymore on here lately. i do get on here when i can though, like now, to read this thread

i'll try to keep current with this thread, lookin good so far.
feel free to ask me for help anytime you need it, and if i'm able to answer i will.email will probably get the fastest response if i'm at work

Hi Steve... I cant believe you posted here...lol.... thanks for reading, i am so close to boost, i cant believe it... I didnt receive the ecu yesterday, what i said in the pm, is that i was able to clock the wastegate doing it the way you explain it.... i really dont expect the ecu to be here in 2 weeks, cause the first class mail int. is too slow, its not realy trackeable, cause its not updated. It only says that the package was accepted on Canton.... Btw, in the papers you have to fill in order to ship you have to include the price? how much did you put? perhaps you realized that the lower the price you put, the less taxes i pay... please tell me that you put down 30 bucks or something... lol.... Well.... millons of pics in a day or too....

thanks

yeah, ups does suck for international shipping. i also get quotes before i ship to avoid that problem.

and yes taxes suck. I feel bad. i just sold my wheels to a guy in canada and put the actual value of them. i wasnt aware that he would get nailed with taxes. he ended up having to pay $400 to his gov't!

Prelude of the Month

Big big big update, please dont quote!!!!!!!!!!

DISCLAIMER: ALL THE PICS WORK FINE… BUT THEY ARE BIG… SO IF YOU CANT SEE SOME OF THEM. REFRESH THE BROWSER TILL YOU SEE THEM. SORRY FOR THE SHITTY PICTURES.

Well guys, in some way i finished my long, difficult, time consuming turbo install… For those who are wondering… i cant drive or test the car, because the shitty oil return plug connector I bought from ebay is licking a lot of oil, so i have to change the hole oil return line………. I will not do it now, cause first I don’t have more money, I am broke. Second I am so damn tired I cant even think of the car right now… I did all by myself; Ive been doing it 18 hours a day (without eating or stopping) 6 days in a row. I lost a lot of weight and I am yellow… like ill or something… and four, I have all my hands hurt, full of cuts, and black from the grease and oil that wont come off even using those especial products for cleaning… I have to go the university cause I am a professor, and the students see the grease under my nails and they say… wow, this guy is a hippie, and since I hate hippies lol, I will stop for like 15 days and then… when I feel fresh I will take again the downpipe, the dumptube and the oil pain, and I will redone the oil return line using quality shit this time.

So basically I finished all, alone, all by myself in 7 destroying days… 3 months of planning, 7 days of 18hours continuos work and 2 minutes of testing before disaster… at least the turbo is getting oil lol…. So.. well… in the mean time you wait for the finished product I will start the illustrated story here, so you can enjoy it and check the pics cause you were very helpful and you all deserve a pic update… so here it is…

This is the engine bay before everything started…. The only thing Ive got was a i57 k&n air filter… I love the sound of it, I didn’t take of the resonator or anything at that time, so this its how it looked like… stock and dirty..

Now just to respect dates, heres a pic of things I posted before… the walbro and gauge installation, I put this again for the ones who didn’t check it out…

So… I lifted the car to check out how the hell I was going to remove the bumper cause no thread explains it clearly and the helms is worse…. So I removed every single bolt I saw, in order to remove the front bumper to install the intercooler… I was happy to start, but I thought everything was going to be easier… damn… I was wrong….

Finally after many many hours, I took off the bumper… I still didn’t have a clue on how or where I was going to mount the fmic…

I had to take all the intake butterfly, resonator etc.etc…. after that I had enough clearance to install the charge pipe.

I didn’t know how the fuck I was going to do it in the driver’s side cause I didn’t see a shit….

Finally I decided to take the windshield water reservoir out… I know some people relocated it.. well, I relocated it in my closet lol… Here you can see a pic draining the fluid…

Here you can see the fmic progress… don’t ask how I mounted it, because its ghetto as hell….

Yeah... as someone else said in the best setup pics.... ghetto but functional.

Well, with the stock bumper I wasn’t able to see the intercooler from the front of the lude so as I wanted to see it, and want others to see it too (ricer mood lol) I started cutting the inner surface of the intercooler…. And then I happened…. I cut half of my thumb using a saw…. Here’s a pic of the accident… that is only a partial pic ofall the blood… it’s the first time in my life I almost fainted… but I didn’t…. I never faint I don’t know why… I didn’t faint when getting 180 tattoos including the dick, I didn’t faint when a car run over me, I didn’t faint when I fell of a moving car, and I didn’t faint in any of the street fights ive been through…. Well… I didn’t faint with this cut either..

Heres the pic for the ogrish people

Then I replaced the spark plugs with new ones… I didn’t put in colder ones, because I am running only 6psi…. don’t come here and tell me that I need colder ones for 6psi cause I read a lot about it and its bs…with all due respect…

I threw in the bov in its flange…again old picture for late blummers…

Well… then I installed the manifold… I have to say; I don’t know if it will last, but I love the design its very confortable.,..

After that I installed the turbo, Wg, the filter, the breather filter, and the turbo… no pic here cause I want you to see the finished product once it works…

What I can tell you, and show you with a pic is that the turbo didn’t fit because the lower part of it hitted some steel thing and I had to cut it a little bit so It can fit. It was a pain in this ass because it was like 12 mm thick… believe, I used a lot of tools and many hours after heres the final product… if you look carefully you can see where and what I cut

So now… since I had everything installed besides the oil lines it was time to take the car to the exhaust company… Time to call the tow..

This was at 7am…. Still at night cause we are in early spring here…

This is when the unloaded the lude in the exhaust company…

This is the company…

Here are some pics of the installation and the finished product….

First the old exhaust…

4"

I don’t know how people did it, but I wasn’t able to put a 3” exhaust and a 2,5” dumptube because a matter of space and clearance, so I had to put a 2,5” exhaust and a 38mm dumptube (in inches it must be like 1,75” or something.. I know big is better, but believe me it didn’t fit… the last part of the exhaust the one that you can see from the back of the car, I don’t know the name in English… lets say tail is 4” I like it very much… I am using a closed dumptube. it reunites the exhaust after the front wheels… so its far away from the engine in order to avoid back pressure and exhaust gases going back to the turbo and wg… in the 2 minutes test I witnessed its beautiful sound…

After the tow brought my car home I drained all the oil and after that I removed the oil pan, the oil filter and the stock oil pressure sensor…

I decided to change the oil pan gasket… the rubber one… I removed it and witnessed that half ot it stayed sticked in the oil pan, so the new gasket didn’t seal… I had to take the oil pan to a mechanic a few blocks from my house and gadly, just for a small tip, he lent me his sanding electric brush, so I was able to take off the remains of that freaking rubber gasket…

I also replaced the stock filter with the k&n I bought…

Heres a pic of the turbo being under the car, that was time to install my oil return line… yeah the line I will have to replace…notice that I had to take away the dumptube and downpipe to connect it cause I didn’t have space…. Even without them, I don’t have a lot of space to work, and it was a difficult task…. Difficult task I will have to do again in a week or too with a new line…..

This are the last pics I took…

Installing the injectors….. they fitted perfectly fine in the obd1 plugs and I lost one of the plug clips but it holds fine anyway, no risk of falling down its firmly plugged… I had many issues with the o rings, so I took of the small one and only used the big one (the upper one) and used Teflon tape below it…. I hope there are no leaks…

hahah lol in this pics i left my home keys on the floor, you can check preludepower's lanyard right next to the fuel rail... thanks Adam!

Then I had to install all the vaccum lines and had to disconnect the secondary runners of the im, and I did it the way motoxxxman explained in an old thread. Basically I removed line 12 from the intake manifold, (take a look at the diagram below, cutted line 13 as far away from the iab control diaphragm as possible, and finally connected the line still remaining on the iab control diaphragm directly to the port on the manifold that I removed line 12 from.

After all that, I installed steve’s ecu…. It came in very good shape. The only problem I had is that It didn’t fit in the ecu’s case cause mine (the stock one) was the little squared one, it was jdm, and the p06 he sent me was bigger, I think its usdm… but It isn’t his fault cause I forgot to mention that…

That was the old p14

Then I tested the car, and noticed a lot of smoke under the hood… I was in shock and very afraid I destroyed the car… but no….. It was the tremendous leak of the oil return line… the smoke was because the licking fell over all the downpipe and dumptube and as they were extremely hot the burnt all the oil licked producing that smoke…. That’s were I shut off the car…. Well guys, that’s all I have to tell about it… I cant tell if iam happy or not, cause I wasn’t able to test the lude… I will have to remove the flywhell cover, the oil pan, the downpipe, the dumpt tube, the oil return line and will then have to make a new one and install everything in the reverse order… after that I guess it will be the best day of my life….

Well, for those who want to know exactly what things didn’t work out well, so you cant prevent them if you are doing the same thing I did… here you are…

1) Don’t buy ebay jdm oil return hoses and plugs… they are the shittiest thing on earth…. In my case, they didn’t last 2 minutes…
2) Don’t try to bore out the injectors o ring, they will break…. I left the bigger one one, and put Teflon tape in the inner part of it…. They didn’t leak in the 2 minutes test.. I will see what happens in the future…
3) If you have a jdm ecu, try to buy a chipped and tuned jdm ecu; the usdm will not fit in the ecu’s case… I had to make a ghetto thing so it gets stuck in there.
4) Don’t over tighten the fuel pressure regulator banjo bolt… mine broke… so I had to tap it with a material that when dries stays there as metal… So the fuel will mantein its pressure but I wont be able to relief the pressure any more… I cant buy a new bolt cause mine broke in two and one half of it remained screwed in the hole and I wasn’t able to take it off. That’s why I had to block it with the metallic material (that material they use for bathroom repairs… I hope it wont lose pressure.. I guess not…
5) When you cut the bumper, I suggest buying a good dremel… Don’t try to put a cutting disk in the driller cause it will break and it will cut you thumb… lol… yeah, just like me…
6) If you use a turbo like mine, try fitting it there before you start installing things, you may have to cut a little of the steel frame inside the engine bay… do it before… then its very hard.
7) Connect your bov to the cruise control line, its line 8 in the diagram I posted above… if not it will not work… I tried every other location.. and nothing…
If your oil pan gasket is not very bad, don’t remove it… don’t even try… if you break 1 inch of it, it will not work and you will have to remove it all… removing it it’s a pain in the ass, as long as you don’t have power tools…
9) To install the bov in the flange buy a clamp tool… don’t do it why ghetto technics… the clamp tool is like 10 bucks….
10) You don’t need to replace the exhaust gasket as it is metal…. Its always fine… mine was fine after 18 years… so I guess they are all fine… Don’t use a gasket between the turbo and the downpipe, its useless… it doesn’t have any real sense….
11) Don’t go so big with the downpipe and dumptube, cause then installing the oil return line will be very difficult…
12) Always use Teflon tape to connect the “t” in the oil pressure sensor and the lines…. Don’t make kinks in the oil feed line… don’t enlarge the oil flange feed hole… you will blow your seals if you enlarge it a bit… with a very small hole the amount of oil is fine believe me… don’t enlargen it.,.. as long as you have a small turbo
13) Before installing the feed line, throw in the turbo oil feed hole a few drops of oil, so then when you fire the engine the turbo gets oil immediately.-
14) Be very carefull with tools and bolts…. I lost a lot of them in the engine… never found them.
15) Don’t try to do everything at one time… its impossible.. take your time… say for example.. today, I will install the manifold and the turbo… then I will rest till tomorrow… if not you will not sleep, you will not eat and you will be very nervous and tired…. Then you will lost objectivity and your work will be crap…. You will see that after you sleep at night, the next day you will see things much more clear.-
16) Remember to block every vaccum line you disconnect, and don’t forget to disconnect secondary runners if you have a dual stage intake manifold.
17) Read, read read and read more…. You are always missing something.
1 Try to get a buddy to help you. And be sure that your buddy knows about ludes, if not its useless… I didn’t have anyone so now I am destroyed and dead tired…

In all this project I invested around 4,500 bucks…. In my currency its like 16000 pesos… You always need something else, so if you have to buy a 3000 turbo kit, go ahead and save 2000 more…. Just in case… believe me… you will need it…

Thanks for reading, thanks for being there and hope you remain tuned….

I will wait 15 days till my hands heal, and wait to make some money to make the new oil return line… I am exhausted, I lost everything in this project and I hope once I install a new, better designed oil return line it will run perfectly fine….

Thanks again

Btw, I will think of an idea to cool things in the engine because down there… wow,,, its unbelievable hot… I don’t want to use that heat wrap cause it destroys the downpipe and it’s a cancerigenous product….

Take care…
