HowTo: Retrieve CEL, ATTS, ABS, and 4WS Codes

There have been more than one of these threads, but I just don't like the pictures in the others. And since I needed to do this process myself, I figured I'd turn it into a write-up. So, here we go.

Step 1: Get into the passenger side of your car. Locate the OBD-II panel cover and just pull it off.




Step 2: Locate and remove the blue 2-pin connector.




Step 3: Locate and insert your jumper. Some people use paperclips or twisty-ties. I prefer a standard forked ground connector. It doesn't flex and is a perfect fit.




Step 4: Put your key in the ignition and turn forward to the second or "ON" setting (no photo needed, I hope).

Step 5: Count the pretty lights. It's basically like Morse code, with short and long durations. Long durations come first, followed by shorts. Long duration = 10 each, short duration = 1 each. Example: Long Long Long Long Short Short Short = 43. There is about a half second pause between each same duration and about a full second pause before switching to a different duration. Example: Code 22 = Long (half second pause), Long (full second pause), Short (half second pause), Short. If there is more than one code stored for a particular system, there will be a 2-3 second pause between the codes.



Now then, the Diagnostic Troubleshooting Codes (DTCs):

Check Engine Light (CEL)
1 - O2A: Oxygen Sensor #1 (primary) - P0131 (low voltage), P0132 (high voltage)
2 - O2B: Oxygen Sensor #2 (secondary) - high/low voltage
3 - MAP: Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor - P0107 (low input), P0108 (high input)
4 - CKP: Crank Position Sensor - P0335 (circuit malfunction), P0336 (range/performance)
5 - MAP: Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor - P0106 (range/performance), P1128 (low), P1129 (high)
6 - ECT: Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor - P0117 (low input), P0118 (high input)
7 - TPS: Throttle Position Sensor - P0122 (low input), P0123 (high input), P1121 (position low), P1122 (position high)
8 - TDC: Top Dead Center Sensor - P1359 (disconnected), P1361 (intermittent interruption), P1362 (no signal)
9 - CYP: Cylinder Sensor - P1381 (intermittent interruption), P1382 (no signal)
10 - IAT: Intake Air Temperature Sensor - P0111 (range/performance), P0112 (low input), P0113 (high input)
12 - EGR: Exhaust Gas Recirculation Lift Valve - P1491 (insufficient lift), P1498 (high voltage)
13 - BARO: Barometric/Atmospheric Pressure Sensor - P1106 (range/performance), P1107 (low input), P1108 (high input)

Now that you have your codes pulled, it's time to fix them. For CEL DTCs, go to Step 6. For ATTS DTCs, go to Step 9. For ABS DTCs, go to Step 12. For 4WS DTCs, go to Step 15.

Step 6: Download the Helm's Manual. You might also be interested in the Electrical Troubleshooting Manual.

Step 7: Turn to Chapter 11, Pages 46-50. Find the code in the charts and turn to the page indicated. Begin troubleshooting.

Step 8: To clear CEL DTCs, follow these steps.

Pop the hood and go to the Under-hood Fuse Box.



Locate and remove the Clock/Radio fuse. It's the middle fuse on the top row (the only 7.5A fuse on the top row). Removing for 5 seconds is sufficient.





Put everything back together.

Step 9: Download the Helm's Manual. You might also be interested in this ATTS Info Guide.

Step 10: Turn to Chapter 15, Page 16. Find the code in the charts and turn to the page indicated. Begin troubleshooting.

Step 11: Follow these steps to clear ATTS DTCs.



Step 12: Download the Helm's Manual.

Step 13: Turn to Chapter 19, Page 41. Find the code in the charts and turn to the page indicated. Begin troubleshooting.

Step 14: Follow these steps to clear ABS DTCs.



Step 15: Download the Helm's manual from the following link: 4G Helm's Manualhttp://downloads.hondatech.info/Aut... Prelude Euro-USDM-JDM 92-96 Shop Manuals.zip. This is the 4th Gen (1992-1996) non-USDM manual. The 4WS system is the same.

Step 16: Turn to Chapter 17, Page 38. Find the code in the charts and turn to the page indicated. Begin troubleshooting.

Step 17: Follow these steps to clear 4WS DTCs.

Well this is fun. I just pulled my codes. Anyone car to explain why my car threw codes that aren't listed?

threw codes
80 - EGR
81 - ABS CPU error
82 - ?????
83 - ?????

I think something is awfully wrong here, as other than the EGR I'm not having any braking problems. I am having random misfires which the code for that isn't listed (I think it's code 70)

I am really going to have to go back out. That made me a bit cross-eyed when my car told me those codes.

Just an idea for ya....make sure you stuck it in the correct side of the clip, thers like two layers or whatever if you know what i mean. Make your your sticking them in the correct holes.

Lol Dude that's your oil change guilt timer. A lot of hondas have them. You reset that when you change your oil by pushing your key into the little slot near it. It will stay green to 5k miles I think then turn yellow. If it turns red and you still haven't changed your oil, well you probably aren't checking the level either, and if you drive a 5th gen it's probably empty.:funny:

Will this work for obd1 ecu's? P13 to be exact?

And.. anyone know where that 'blue 2-pin connector' would be located in an integra RS?

EDIT: Nvrmind, i found the 2-pin connector
